Rocker cover gasket/spark plug gaskets

Just wondering if anyone out there has a DIY on how to change rocker cover gaskets? I would just have a go at it but this is my daily driver so done want to f???? it up and have the car off the road.

there is light 6 or 8 bolts hold ing on. Do you have 1.5 or 1.8, If 1.8 remove plugs and other assoiated material and then undo bolts on cover, lift up and its off. Swap out gasket. Don't get chit on expossed valves

Rocker cover gasket... possibly the easiest 'opening an engine' tasks.

1. if your sparks go through head, disconnect your spark plug leads/coils.
2. loosen dome nuts holding down cover
3. using a rubber mallet, give the rocker cover a slight knock to break seal
4. lift cover and invert, in case oil is present...put it aside (out of dusty conditions best)
5. clean both mating surfaces, removing any old gasket remnants present
6. using some sealing gasket goo, adhere new gasket down on head
7. place a slight swipe of gasket goo down on top of mated gasket (you don't strictly have to use gasket goo, but it helps it stay put when you put the rocker back on)
8. put rocker back on carefully, ensuring no gasket slips or protrudes from its placement
9. torque up nuts to correct tension

Take photos of your rockers and comment how clean your engine looks

Seems to be the thing to do when people pop their valve cover off..

sorry.. I must have OCD... I like steps and manuals, clean work spaces and everything in it's place..

probably too much effort all round!

U dont need to use gasket goo or silicon for that matter they are rubber gaskets. Dont over tighten them and they wont leak. Very simple task i let first years do them in there first week and they are dumb arse's... The torque is about 10 nm...

while you have it off, you should paint it, it will look sick with a metallic blue and then silver lettering ;)

Use anything that has a heat proof rating.... the lower heat rating paints are for engine components, the higher are for exhaust application

Yeah I work at super cheap so can get some 300 degree engine enamel in blue, probly not metallic though

Sounds good. Will either order the gasket set this week or next week (depending on pay)

if ur not on budget, it 'may' be cheaper and handy down track to buy a full gasket set, they got for about $60 on ebay +post and just handy to have incase u do extractors... then u already ahve gasket and can diy it
depends how much it costs for just valve cov and spark... maybe a good option to think about tho

What Res said, recpo charge me 36$ for my gasket, wishing i had thought of ebay kit before i had my exhaust in peices.

probly just get the gasket set for now. Not really looking at headers for another month or two. Planning on lowering the car first before I start engine work.
