Hey...

So I'm thinking I'm going to get a pod filter. Purely for sound. Is it worth getting a CAI, or making one? If I have no CAI is the hot air induction actually bad for my engine? How much will materials cost? And do I really have to keep the pod inside he air box for it to be legal?

Danke,
Ben

For a starters what state are you in?

NSW definitely has to be in an enclosed box, some other states only want it securely attached to the body with no box required.

A short ram intake (SRI) would be what you would get if you just take the box out and slap a pod on. Been there done that (albeit I used a RRM Aluminium pipe SRI though) and because of the hot air being sucked in I LOST power and INCREASED my fuel use!! Now going back to a panel filter with a larger intake into the air box I have found the engine has better response and better fuel economy!

So if you are going to do it right make sure it is taking in cold air!!

=/

Sorry, this question has been asked so many times. Someone should put something together and sticky it. ;)

In all serious i think we need a stiky post on pods/CAI, exhausts and lowering... the ammount of times its brought up

if u dont go cold air intake then ur wasting ur money and time... simply put
if you want to ust buy a kit that bolts right on to your car, and is easy, no problems go with henry's kit, +it looks pretty nice in the engine bay

so here is henry's bolt on kit for cold air intake = ~$280 +post (includes everything u need)

or if ur still keen on losing power and want something cheap that sucks hot air but is better than ur average poddy = ~$90 +post

other than that u can no have a pod and do what josh did and get some flexy pipe from autobarn for $20
and remove your lower resonators and pipe the flexy pipe down the hole to ur front bumper so it feeds cold air to ur stock air box

on ebays there is some pretty good ones TBH, and they come cheap, plus they have a good range of enclosed pods which is what you really wnat regardless of your states laws

could use one of these with some flexi pipe to put it at ur front bar, but you would need maybe 1 or 2 brackets to hold it there

same goes for this

i dont really think these are that good, but u will keep ur throttle response (not that u ever lose it that much with a cai) but u wont get as much gains
coz it sucks hot air, and then probably 30:70 cold air once u get up some speed, ur choice here it is
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/POD-FILTER-INTAK ... 2a0a7e20dd

my final word on it is definitly go CAI, keep it away from as much heat as possible and have it enclosed so its legal, also braket it properly so it doesnt hang around coz that is also deffective
and finally your best bet is to go with henry's CAI the 1st picture and here is a website for him, send him an email if ur interested (his cai is well worth it)

3rd pic down or one at bottom depending on ur engine

[edit]
could also get an RPW kit
4g15/ 1.5L engine------> http://www.rpw.com.au/shop/index.php?pa ... t&Itemid=1

4g93/ 1.8L engine------> http://www.rpw.com.au/shop/index.php?pa ... t&Itemid=1

well after making 5 CAI setups from scratch by myself i can sorta say im a little bit of an expert :p
okay i'll make a thread for it, and everything u will need to know about them.
then a mod can sticky it

haha im sick of hearing this question :)

pods make sound n "are so totally kool man", where as a regular pannel filter does the exact same thing and u dont NEED the CAI to make it worthwhile, where as for the pod u do, otherwise it decreases powerzzzzz.

p.s i like how the past few times people have asked bout cai's n such, my CAI has been used as an example :) hehe i feel so special :)

we use your CAI coz its the easiest for a noob to understand josh, lol special :p

and you do need a CAI for a standard filter setup if you want to get gains, air doesnt descriminate between the two
the stock setup on CE's is ULTRA restrictive and sucks almost all hot air, the +'s for that are, you will never get aqualock and its fairly quiet
-'s are that it sucks hot air and is very restictive

so yes you do need a cold air intake to make any filter setup worth while even the stock one josh

Yeah I think it's about time we get a pod sticky going: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=769

Please post up change/suggestions/improvements to what I have written , including pictures that I can use. I will then collate it all and make a useful sticky for us.
