Overhead light prob...

Hey all have just put in an overhead map light & wired it up to the existing overhead light wires... Now it works ok but only when the door is open. I know in the old one there was a 3 switch thingo, open, closed & on when the door opens. Looks like i've wired this up so it's the last one & i'm a bit lost as to how to re wire it to be able to switch it on without opening the door.
The old light has 2 wires, the new has 3 wires... I blew a fuse first time around by wiring it the wrong way but wondering if someone knows the right way to wire this one up please???

This is the new light...

and this is it's connections & wiring...

You home this arvo?? I can come around with my tools and meter if you want!

Without seeing it in person it's hard for me to say as I don't know how the CE's supply power to the roof light, or exactly how the modeo light switch is meant to be wired. I have my suspiscions, but it'll need a couple mins with a multimeter to work it out!

Ok, I finish work at 4, so I'll be there somewhere between 4:30 and 5!

Doh, I have something on this arvo I forgot about...is tomorrow possible at all?

Ummm I'm supposed to be catching up with a friend tomorrow arvo and I have no idea what time that'll be at. Even if you were free at 7 or 8 tonight that'd be fine though... I dont go to bed til late and this should be an easy fix and not take long at all!!

Yeah cool, should be free after about 6.30 so if you want to make it 7 that'd be great mate. If you have one, bring an external drive & i'll fill it with music & stuff. Ta Ryan

Thanks heaps Ryan, was a pretty simple fix in the end but could never have worked it out on my own so really appreciate the help mate. Ta

hey where can u get those map lights from? i have blue LEDs that i put into my dome light but if i try to ever read anything.. especially blue writing i cant bloody see a thing haha.

gl, if i had a better look at it in person i would be able to help but, pictures arnt good enuf for this sort of thing

i havent seen the back of the origonal main light, so this is going of theoretical knowlege
(also may seem a bit dodgy but u can adapt it to be neater, im just giving the general idea)

ok, on ur new light connect all the (+) cables to a side of the metal that holds the festoon bulb in the stock light
and now ur (-) cable(s) to the other side of the metal bit that hold in the origonal bulb in the origonal light

now ur new light will turn on whenever u turn ur origonal main light on, or if it comes on door, then ur new one will be on door

there u go, that is the basic idea, but its rough. so there is plenty of neatening to be done on that plan
