odd feeling when idling

my car has developed over the last few weeks an odd lump in acceleration
i dont kno what it is but its bloody annoying, here is what is happening

*when i go to take off clutch engages normal but every once in a while it wil engage but just a bit above the engage point it;ll feel like it engages again

* when idling in gear like crawling in traffic it feels like i can feel each time a piston fires, like a lump it'll go then ease off then go, ease off, but thats without foot on clutch/ acellorator or brake

* when in a low speed in a gear normally happens in 2nd when im just crawling along in traffic, clutch just going, if the speed goes under 20km/h and i go to take off again in 2nd it'll have nothing at all the all of a sudden the lump feeling then it'll go normal

it hasnt done this for the whole time i have owned it up till now, and it started happening too far after any mods i had done for it to be a mods fault, what could this be, its bloody annoying in traffic

i know my car struggled too get off the line when i had *poo* leads/plugs but i got an auto.

so check them and what not.

im not 100% thats the problem, but give it a go

has nothing to do with my clutch control, coz it only happens wen the clutch is out fully and normal
i kno more speed would help but idle rolling in 1st gear which should easily handle 5km/h idling in that gear it still happens, there has to be something causeing it coz it never did it b4 untill a few weeks ago
i want to fix the problem not just put up with it

yeh already checked them for cracks, checked my oil, checked my coolant, whecked the filter wasnt clogged

could it be fuel pump? pulsing the fuel or something? spark pluggs are new, tb def works fine

Fuel pumps dont pulse, they either are alive or dead.

1st gear at 5kmh would indeed be your cause, cruise up to 10kmh and i bet its either reduced or disappears completely. 1st gear is cut out for taking off not idling in traffic.

the lump i think you are talk-en about is a hesitation in throttle response... My missus lancer dose the same thing when going slow or too low a gear when turning etc. I think it is just the fuel pressure dropping off from not enough voltage getting to fuel pump to supply enough fuel when the throttle is cracked. If you can go to your local workshop and get them to put the fuel pressure gauge on your car, then take the mechanic for a drive and try to make it happen. That way it will tell you if its a fuel pressure related problem. I'm not saying your fuel pump is no good, you might just have to upgrade to a higher pressure fuel regulator.

yeh im getting one soon off matty anyways, hopefully that fixes it

your probably right myles, but its never done it b4 wen i snailed on 5km in 1st gear till now, i guess i'll just get used to it

Sounded like a clutch problem to me too from the way it was described..

Hard to diagnose from descriptions but.. My initial thoughts were also to check your spark plugs and gap. Would also check your injector spray pattern (or run a bottle of injector cleaner and see if it's fixed). Other than that checking the fuel pressure is also a good idea.

nah i am pretty sure after today that it is actually a fuel/ignition thing
coz it got a bit worse, but if i rev it a bit more than normal and let the clucth out its fine
i think its like a lagg in the fuel, best way to describe the feeling
coz it it was clutch slip it only happens at like ~1000rpm and it must slipp for ages if it is,
doesnt really feel like clutch tho, u can feel the engine sort of do a stoke but it gets no power for a few strokes then it'll do the lump and just go normally

so yeh getting a fuel pressure reg. off matty soon, hopefully that fixes it, if not in the mean time i'll check the spark pluggs and run some injector cleaner thru it

I am having the same problem with mine! Although I have an auto, the idle is just not right on it lately :(
I got some injector cleaner that I'm putting in today, got new spark plugs and will buy some new spark plug leads today.
Hopefully that will fix it all.. well that's what the mechanic reckons anywaaays.

It's not a slipping clutch that's your problem is it?

My first thought, had a similar issue in the CH before I traded the sucker.

i changed the oil in it the other day and somehow it fixed it... *shrugs shoulders*
dont ask me how all i know is it hasnt happened this week and it was usually fairly regular

not last time while it was happenign everything was normal

now its just under full this time i drained a bit out trying to fix the leak so now its normal again
i did change oils tho but really i dont see how an oil change is going to affect the air/ignition/fuel or the clutch, so meh, i was usuing castrol GTX-3 now im using shell something still 15-40
and i did start running it back on 98octane instead of 91-E10, so it could be anything
all i know is im just happy its not fking up anymore :)

E10 wil f**k up your engine, don't use it, and make sure you use 100% synthetic

i put injector cleaner in mine today, and today my car hasn't skipped a beat and is running perfectly !
so werid lol at least it's better now

i might have to run some cleaner thru mine this weekend
that and change teh oil/filter/airfilter
hopefully it should run smoother with all that

whats a good synthetic oil to use then?
and also whats a good semi synthetic just for the sake of knowing both?

im not too fussed on the oil i use, aslong as it is under $40 for a 5L bottle and doesnt hurt my engine in any way and lasts 5,000 kms then im happy

A good semi synthetic that is widely used is a 10w-30 Valvoline durablend.
