picked up some second hand side skirts today, they came off a mr coupe. got 1 side half fitted up as you can see in the pics, 1 side is screwed in using the mudflap screws but there are no holes under the rest of my car or in the rear wheel well.. so this side is currently supported by a can of degreaser.. :D

the insides of the side skirts have holes for screws but since i have a gli, so no screw holes under my car? They also have these yellow clip like things. Guessing they would go in holes on the side of the car. Anyway instead of rushing into it and *fudge*ing up my car.. (like my radiator, and when i started a fire on my battery) ive decided to ask for ideas. was thinking sikaflex but then if i ever wanted to remove the skirts it would resolve in problems, so im thinking about drilling screws in threw the holes in the bottom of the skirts and into the bottom of the car?

these are those yellow clips ->

any information / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The back part of the MR skirt when taking of the MR stuff on mine had 3 dabs of sikaflex aswell as the clips along it.

Underneath will be the easiest secure rest and then screw those screws in.. The clips will be the hardest either drill holes in the right spot to clip them in or I would probably run a strip or dabs of sickaflex or 3 m tape along the top half of the skirt front to back.

If you did it in heat when taking off might be ok with sickaflex just dont go crazy with it. If you used the clips u will have holes in the body if you took them of to sell..

MOREL will know more as his done the MR stuff on his.

Can see sikaflex in this aswell as the holes if you went clips and holes in the body.

Go the Sikkaflex- go blobs or dabs rather than a length or bead. You can get it off later, you can use a "caramel wheel" (doesnt taste like caremel though) it glue take off the remaining glue.
Or get it in the sun with a tin of wax and grease remover, use a roll of toilet paper and rub it all way, a few hours of elbow grease required.
Hopefully at the rear of the sideskirt it will sit flush against your rear quater without needing tooo much pressure.
Masking tape might be strong enough - if not- urethane and "suck and clamps"

NICE AS said:

ok, you will need
masking tape
nail polish
drill
drill bit 1 size smaller then the prong

put skirt up against your car, now you can work out where the clips need to go. put masking take in the spot for clips.
now make sure you have all clips in skirt, then paint the end of the clip with alot of nail polish, now put the skirt where it will sit on the car, the polish will leave a mark on the masking tape. now you can drill the holes going from the polish marks, use a drill bit smaller then the clip because it will push through and have a tight fit. take tape off and put skirt on.

my old kit had its side skirts held on with sikiflex, this is what it did when i took it off

thats cause it was all bogged up there

the whole left hand rear quarter panel is bog on my car after someone tagged me in a car park and bailed..

im going to drill the screws in from the underneath, really dont want to drill holes in the sides for the clips but.
Is there something other than sikaflex that i can glue it on with but remove the compound later on if i dont want it?
I dont want to use sikalex because According to Sika Corporation, cured Sikaflex may only be removed mechanically; cleansing agents will not work.

As fibresports already said, you can use a caramel wheel to remove the old sikaflex. They just fit into the end of an electric drill. They work magic, that's what I used when I removed the spoiler on my Bora. The caramel wheel smells delicious when it heats up but yeah, don't try to eat it!

If you must use sikkaflex try this - I have done this many times and it has always worked out when I have needed to remove parts - you know the stuff that you get stickers made from? you can get the vinyl from a sign writer - line the area that is going to have the skirt on so that it creates a barrier between the paint and the skirt then you can use the sikkaflex to help hold the skirt on - so when you need to remove you just remove the vinyl and it takes the sikkaflex off quick clean and easy.

No u lay the sticker first, apply the sikaflex, fit the skirt and then peel the sticker off to remove the excess sikaflex

So car body, then sticker, then sikaflex, then skirt?

If this is the case how is the sikaflex ad heard to the car body so it sticks the skirt on?

Yes basically body sticker sikaflex skirt.

Another way I've seen it done is:
On the car where the skirt is going to sit there is no sticker. U lay the sticker on the body above the line of the skirt. This way if u go too high with the sikaflex or it overflows when you push the skirt on it would normally been seen on the body. But if you have a sticker over the body above the skirt, u can simply peel it off afterwards to leave no excess visible on the body of the car.

i installed the sideskirts the next day after to my last post. drilled the bottom screws in and the mud guard screws. and used lines of sikaflex over the old adhesive that was on the back of the sideskirts. you can notice that there different colour whites, cars a bit sunfaded and creamy'er. they sit even with the front bar just look a bit weird without
and dont be hating on my vaults or roof racks. im getting new rims when i can afford it.

your rims surprisingly don't look bad, usually hate them. or maybe I'll hate them when they're hit with some sunlight
