I've already sorted this out.
It's funny how there is only one guy that has done this mod but it's listed on another thread and there is no mention of the complications.
I know there is easier brake upgrades. I dont like the idea of having under sized rotors or using brake disk spacers.
My plan is to do some track days with the car and maybe eventually making it a dedicated take car. The local track is very hard on brakes so i dont want to take any short cuts.
Yeah it is funny, because Hornunga is the only one I can say for sure who has or should I say is in the process of doing the CH brake swap. Frosty who commented in the other thread may have done it because he has a lot of CH stuff in his car, but I cant confirm what he exactly did with his brakes. I only know that he put ABS in it and he said there was a lot of work involved. And yes, it is listed in the spreadsheet in the second brake thread because it's an option, its not there to tell you how easy or hard it is. So far Hornunga is the only one showing us whats involved as far as this goes and we are all watching and learning off his progress and when your the one pioneering something new, you're the example of said complications.
When you say under sized rotors and spacers, are you meaning the Mini Cooper option? With them being 2mm thinner.
I ran Mini Cooper 276's for a few years of daily driving and several motorkhana days on them without any issues. Never needed spacers either.
With the Mini Cooper discs, 1mm isn't that much for your pads to make up either side. You could lose that much just getting your discs machined and no one would bat an eye lid. If you're concerned about it, its just as easy as monitoring your pad thickness and change as required. It's all I ever did, just kept an eye on it.
I understand where you're going as far as prepping for track, I've got another mirage that I'm slowly working on now to be a track only car.
At the moment, front discs is the only thing I do not have for it brake wise. I've already got Proton rear discs and FTO twin piston front calipers.
It'll either be back to Mini Cooper discs, otherwise it'll get some new Evo 3 discs and get them re-drilled.
Or if I can spin it, ask DBA if they can sell me a blank Evo 3 discs and get them drilled to 4X100 or get them to drill them to 4X100 rather than 4x114. Definitely an avenue I'd like to explore.
But if you're dead set on going the CH route, go for it.
Maybe someone will learn something off you having done it also.
You never know, it might become the next popular upgrade and you'll be a wanted man! lol.
