i bought it new from moonlight racing, the product number matches up with the one from the hks websiteDid you buy it new or second hand? The market is flooded with fake HKS stuff, I think they are more common than genuine HKS parts lol
The badge / logo style on the exhaust tip looks legit but I cant remember if the placement was supposed to be on the tip or the can. The muffler inlet welds dont look fantastic (compared to the other welds) which may indicate it being fake or if its second hands its probably just someone welding on an inlet pipe to suit their own needs.
Unfortunately since they dont come with part numbers stamped into them the only way I can think of to know for sure is to compare it to a known genuine one.
Apparently the fake vs genuine have very distinct tones between the exhaust notes so I reckon hit up some car meets and ask people to rev their engines for you
Unfortunately that really wont confirm much either as anyone can put a product number on their own website. I have never heard of moonlight racing before so I dont know their quality but after looking at their website and products I suspect they bulk ordered the mufflers without inlet pipes (blanks) from a HKS re-seller then welded different sized inlets on to the mufflers in house to create multiple products to sell which would explain the vast quality difference in the welds and is fairly common practice with these types of companies who deal primarily in 'universal' hardware rather than manufacturer specific stuff.i bought it new from moonlight racing, the product number matches up with the one from the hks website
i think it’s genuine, there’s a lot of fakes out there and i just wanted to confirm, but then heaps of people on the facebook page said fake and it freaked me out, the guys at moonlight assured me it’s genuine and i’m pretty certain that it’s genuine as the quality is too good to be fake, just hoping it’ll sound nice on my 4g93 and not too loud and fartyUnfortunately that really wont confirm much either as anyone can put a product number on their own website. One thing I dont understand is that they sell the same muffler on their website, the 'HKS Hi-Power Universal Muffler' but have multiple listings with different inlet sizes BUT the prices range from $300 - $800 for literally the same can just with different inlet pipe sizes, that doesnt sound right to me at all but could be perfectly legit. NFI lol
I had a quick look into the business and they seem fairly established with no negative reviews regarding them or their products if that means anything.
What made you question the mufflers legitimacy?
Regardless, its a good looking Milo tin, had one on my old Evo at one stage. I say get it installed and just enjoy it
people on the facebook page said fake
you said that you had an hks on your evo? was it super loud?hahahah, well that about sums it up.
Ignore those Muppets. Unless they can provide tangible information to validate their claims its most likely BS / trolling / product prejudice.
Just whack it on and and enjoy it, I think we even have a thread somewhere with AL members posting videos showing off their exhausts so you can rate it against other cars with similar setups once its on to see how it compares. I made my own muffler for my coupe, lots of people hated it but I didnt care because it did its job and I enjoyed the crap out of it
