I'm new to the Auslancer community, however not new to the lancer scene. I owned a neat blue CE coupe. (yes I know, past tense, but he was written off in last year's storm :/) Anyway, I'm looking at getting back into another CE soon. So, looking forward to seeing you on the road!

Welcome to the forum man!
what colour/chassis as you looking at getting this time?

would recommend getting a "MR" trim level then, its the best trim level we got here in AUS, power windows/mirrors, central locking, airbag, tacho and 1.8L motor
its just much better in terms of comfort AND if you want to mod it you dont have to do quite as much because you already have all the cool factory features and more powerful motor
whereas the guys who buy 1.5L lancers commonly end up swapping in a 1.8L motor eventually if they are serious about modding, it just deletes that hassle going the MR trim straight up

Ahhh ok. My old CE was a 1.5 gli with some extras, so I never have driven a 1.8. Is there really that much difference between the two, and how is fuel consumption? At a stretch my old car used to get between 700-800km on a tank :p

Welcome to the forum maverick! We have 3 lancers in the family now, picked up a neat CE coupe for the mother in law with 200k on it for $700, so they are around. The 1.5's are the most economical, but if i was buying one for myself i would listen to res's advice and go the MR trim level. I remember the old 1.5 CE coupe i had 14 years ago, if i had more than 3-4 people in the car i had to switch off the A/C going up steep hills just to get some extra power to get up the hill!!

Good luck

you will get a solid 600-650kms out of a tank with a 1.8L motor, the power is significantly better than the 1.5L, like way better. you can actually drive around with a car full of people and have the A/C on no worries.
the 1.5L is about 60kw and is gutless when it comes to any sort of incline/hill, the 1.8L on the other hand is about 86kw according to wiki and has a much better torque curve that will get you up hills.

as with all lancers though you wont go beating V8's in a race, but the extra factory power of a 1.8L is beneficial and you might kick yourself for not buying one down the track.

10/10 recommend the 1.8 even if it's a gli 1.8 - I would get an MR if there's one in the budget and isn't thrashed because power windows are such a good edition to life.

But the driving experience is ten fold what the 1.5 is IMO. Fuel consumption I've dragged out to 650km for a tank and that wasn't even careful granny driving. What I find with the bigger motor is you need to use less throttle to get places or catch up to traffic or hills.

Yeah they have a ripper I take note, even if you just use the air box and the hole in it.

Also they're nearly impossibru to blow up. Mongoose drove mine in second gear like 20km incl the freeway and that thing still didn't pop even though it had more leaks than wiki.
