Ive seen it done before plus, a lot of us are on a budget so ghetto mods are the go. Short shifters on ebay were around $120. I spent $18 on a gear lever from a pick-a-part yard and 1 welding rod.
Theory is, shorten the section above the main ball joint pivot of the shifter to lower the knob height, and use the removed piece to lengthen the section under the pivot. This increases the movement of the actual shift per unit of hand movement.
The Photos tell the story. Ps, not the most attractive welds, but theyre strong enough for this. Appologies for not taking photos of the removal and fitting process but its pretty easy and there are console removal guides on here somewhere already.
The stock throw on the ch is 15cm.
The new throw after this was 33% less at 10cm. It feels amazeboobs.

Height After:
Welding Rig: (Shortening top section here...)
Comparison of Levers:
So i cut about 2 cm out of the top section, and added about 1 cm to the bottom section. Adding any more will cause the shift rod to clash with the plastic lever housing at the very bottom, i dont have a photo of this but youll see what i mean if you do this mod. Here is a pic of the unused removed piece.
All finito, feels nice. Remember the grease up the ball joints for extra smooth wows.
