Exhaust differences between CE coupe models

Hi all, not much of a DIY but I thought I'd explain something that I came across while swapping an exhaust system from my S1 CE MR to my S2.

As I have found:

CE S1 MR catalytic converter is approx 1-2" SHORTER than S2.

S2 MR and S2 Gli cat bolt pattern are different.

The above are assumptions that all the cat an headers sections on the cars I have dealt with are standard (as I have no reason to think otherwise, but all cars were purchased 2nd hand).

Here is my evidence:

Me forced to cut an inch length out of the catback exhaust the was fitted to my S1 MR as the exhaust hits on the fuel tank on the S2.

Here's a photo AFTER I cut an inch out of the pipe. As you can see my feeble attempts at getting some clearance between the tank shield and exhaust.

We also tried fitting my old standard MR exhaust to my friends Gli. It did not fit without drilling out the holes to fit the cat studs.

Hopefully that helps someone out when purchasing 2nd hand exhausts for their car :) truthfully, you can make Anything fit if your handy with a welder and have the tools, but it is something to keep in mind.

If you another thing I have noticed is that between the MR's and the Gli's the centre resonator is different, the Gli one is longer where the MR is shorter.

Another piece of useless information.

haha nope, that ain't gonna leak.
i hope everyone remembers to wire brush fresh welds and apply some high temp exhaust paint to prevent rust down the track.
