Hey guys, a mate has a check engine light problem on his 4g69. He is experiencing his car to be running very rich. He checked all fluids and plugs and were all fine. But thinking that it might be caused by water temperature, aftermarket or O2 sensor. Mitsubishi checked with diagnostics scanner and codes come back to say it was fuel related.

Anyone know why this problem is occuring? Trying to help out a fellow Lancer owner. Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

You really need to know exactly what code(s) it is throwing as this will lead you to the exact problem. If it's running rich I'd say its either the MAF or O2 sensor most likely...

I think my lancer threw the same code. "P0125 - Innsufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel control".
My car was displaying symptoms of running rich so I replaced the O2 sensor with an eBay universal. That was a mistake. Lasted about 3 months before it failed and threw that code. Paid a bit extra cash and got a more expensive universal (I got quoted $600 for a genuine sensor).
Car has been fine since.
Those code readers are worth every cent. Just as long as you have some idea what they mean

Haha ironic enough now my car is throwing the p0135 code. "Faulty o2 heater sensor" which is the one on the headers. Qouted $430 for an original Mitsubishi one. Going to Burson this afternoon to see how much they are.

Bosch sensors are good and range in price around the $50-100 depending on what one you need, don't bother with generic crap off ebay. You can check your O2 sensor to see if it is working properly if you have a multimeter.

Not sure about the new model Mitsi's but for the older type, a "Non Can" type scanner will be your aim. The one listed above will work fine.

Ryan, did the CD explain all the error codes?

I took my car to my mate at my local Mitsubishi, he scanned it and found that there was some sort of short which meant it was throwing the engine light on because the o2 sensor was working incorrectly below optimum working temperature. Just need new sensor.
