Hello all,
This is a DIY on how to install a remote boot release to a CE.
I was asking about this a few weeks ago because I wanted to add it to an aftermarket remote locking/alarm system and some people said I should do a DIY when i do it so here it is..
This is just how to install it onto the supplied button but I imagine you would just need to replace the button with the respective wire in the locking kit.
I will make another DIY after iv installed that aswell if you guys would like me to.
This is my first DIY iv done so bear with me
The kit i got was from Jaycar for about $40

in the kit you will find all these bits (you dont even need most of it)
You will need to start by lining up the bracket that holds the actuator and mark where the holes will be going.
I ran it behind the existing cable and it fits just fine.
Drill your holes and screw in the bracket.
just put a washer and a nut on the back to hold it on.
I just held the nut with my fingers and screwed it in
put in the actuator and screw it in to hold it in place
Put on the black rubber tube, line it up and cut it off where the spring starts
I put a bit of electrical tape on to keep it next to the original one
Run the cable through the sping along the stock one and slide on the stopper bolt thing
Pull the cable out all the way and let it go back in till it stops to make sure its in right then tighten the screw
Plug in the black ground wire (I dont think it matters which side its on) and run it through the big hole, around and back out behind the locking mechanism. unscrew a bolt and put the wire onto it.
Bit hard to see in the pic but there is just enough wire to reach the left bolt.
plug on the green wire and run it through the boot and out where the taillight wires are, along them (take off your back seats) and out behind the seats then behind the quarter panel
Pop off the trim along the door and run the wire along the door. this is as far as the green wire reached for me so i hooked up the switch and grabbed a constant from behind my head unit for testing.
Run the red wire with the fuse on the other side of the switch and dodge connect it to the constant power wire for testing.
Push the button and see if it works.
mine worked first time.
I tried a few more times to make it it didnt get stuck or anything but all good.
You may need to adjust the cable till it works properly but probly not if you did what i did.
After that cut off the exess of the cable, put your seats back, trim back on and put the button in a nice location with some extra wire and your done.
I havnt installed the button anywhere yet because I am going to wire it to a remote alarm/locking kit that I also got from jaycar for $99 I think.
Will write up a DIY for that when iv gotten around to it.
Hope it works for everyone.
Enjoy the extra lazyness of not having lean forward to pull up that tiring lever!
