Gday everyone!
Well its about time i put my own DIY up here so here it goes
Im not sure about everyone else but i am very anal about messy cables when it comes to my car it drives me insane! so today i decided to run my USB comeing from the back of my head unit up the centre past the handbrake upto the centre console, my intention was to put the usb in a place where it was discreet and hidden from plain sight! Plus the mrs always wants to plug her iphone in and this way she can do so with out annoying me!!
So anyway here we go first of all need to remove two screws located under the center dash compartment like so:
Once we take them screws out the tray should just pop out, next step will be to remove the center console pieces like so:
We need to remove these screws.
Once you have removed these screws the entire console just lifts off. We then need to start removeing the console around the ashtray/ gearstick; Like so, there is two press clips this is on the passenger side:
Once these are out there is a press clip inside under that plate and also same on the other side you need to remove these so you can pull out center piece:
Once these are off there is a screw in under the ashtray you will need to pull it out and remove this screw like so (had to hijack this image from net as i forgot to take one :
Once this is out you have two last screws and thats it all the console is out (had to hijack this image from the net as i forgot to take one :
Now you can run your cable from your head unit once you have done so we move out attention back to the end piece. To start disassembling it we need to start at the top open the lid and remove the screws:
We now turn the console upside down and remove the two gold screws from the bottom:
One last point of anchoring before we can remove the inside tray, need to remove the rear ashtray very simple take a look :
Now we can work on the bucket piece on its own simple we need to work out how big to drill the hole, in my case my usb tip was 17mm so i pre dilled then used a speedbor bit like so:
For me once i drilled the large hole i need to use a square file to make a kind of rectangle shape to sqeeze the usb through:
Once that is done you can not drop the rubber grommet onto the usb cable and be ready to push it up to fill in the hole :
Bingo you now have a usb cable hidden in your center console its as simple as that!
Please let me know what you think as doing a DIY is new for me an keen to see what we all think :?:
