Cost of a seatbelt replacement 2011 SX

Hi all,

First time poster so apologies if this is the wrong place for this.

My 2011 SXs drivers seatbelt has frayed over time. Have taken it in for service anyway through an authorized dealer and the quote they've given me to replace the belt is $900 in total.

Is this at all reasonable? If so why would it cost this much?

Thanks so much in advance.

No and because dealer rip off.

I'd go to a wreckers, or find someone wrecking one on gumtree or what ever.
Install myself and save $800 or more.

Hey ARC,

Thanks for the response. Thought as much. In your experience what would be a reasonable quote from a dealer?

I am a noob in these respects, so happy to pay someone else to install to make sure I haven't stuffed something up, but I have no idea what price I should be looking at.

Cheers,

I believe new laws came in that don't allow wreckers to sell seatbelts anymore. I think this was part of the massive recalls of Takata belts, and not too sure if its limited to Victoria or not. $900 is excessive, though

Brand new seat belts are about $130 from Autobarn, if you can work out which one you need to buy (there's like hundreds of variations on their website)

Pick any Payless have them listed on their site for $47 ea, they generally follow laws on selling but NFI about legalities on installing them (prolly some BS engineering required).
Id say providing they are in good condition (and retract / lock properly) just get some of them and spend the remaining money on something worthwhile, like me :D

The installation is my main worry and thoughts for how it could possibly be that expensive.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Also, some more background on the story if you're interested: when they gave me the quote I clarified whether that was for the whole service. Was told yes, now I find out that it was the seatbelt alone on top of the rest, and they meant that it was the 'whole installation of the belt' (what?!).

So now I've got a fight on my hands.

Thinking I'll ring around for some quotes and come back with that to dispute them on it (if I get anything reasonable, that is).

Anyways enough rambling. Thanks for the help again all!
