ch v-rx to evo IX engine

Hey guys,
I am just wondering if any one has ever swapped out a vr-x engine and transmission for a evo IX engine and transmission?
Like would the engine just bolt straight on? or would you need to create new engine mounts and everything to fit the slightly smaller block engine, plus the intercooler.
Any thoughts or input would be much appreciated.

ah not a lot at the moment. its just sorta an idea, especially considering i'm still on my green's for another year and a bit. but i wont do it if its just easier to buy an evo.

If you found a really really cheap Evo wreck with all the gear you needed and had a lot of custom fabricating skills you could probobly do it a tiny bit cheaper than buying an Evo. But remember to make your creation road legal you'd need to get it all engineered (expensive) and then you would forever have part compatibility problems because you still don't actually have an Evo. At the end of the day it would be cheaper (and a lot easier) to just by the Evo you want.

Couldn't imagine it being too difficult. Similar body shape, similar model concept. Might cost a bit though. Keep us updated!

There wouldn't be a turbo kit for a 2.4L engine out there that anyone knows of? just thinking that may be another possible option. but ill probably just end up buying an evo. or even have the evo and toy around with the vr-x and hope and pray. but its still a long way off. was just having a think about a few options

evo engine swap is a very long expencive build, one that should not be taken lightly...

basically you are looking at near $8,000 to do the swap keeping it front wheel drive
you might aswell save the extra and buy an actual evo as it will be awd and more reliable because somone hasnt been messing with it

There aren't really turbo kits for any of the Mitsubishi, aside from the ones that people make themselves. Usually people just adapt or use turbo parts from Mitsubishis that came turbod.

Stick with buying an evo. So much time and hassle saved by doing so.
But if u end up doing the swap, u won't b able to sell it later down the track coz noone will be interested (no offense)
Pplz would rather buy the real deal then a conversion at the end of the day.
However if ur bored, need to kill time and *poo* load of money then by all means.
If not then save urself the money and hassle and get an evo instead

I wonder what happens to the wrecked Evo X engines.
Somehow I don't see the newer cars having engine conversions done the same way the older cars did

the engine will bolt in no problems, you would do well to have a full interior, engine loom and ecu to make the swap easy - you would also be able to use your MIVEC gearbox as it will bolt up directly. you will also need to modify the fuel line to a return fuel line which is not that hard to do either, you will also want to get a throttle cable. cost would be about $6k if you did the work yourself.

If it was me wanting a turbo to my engine I would probably get a turbo kit which you could make up easy enough and cost would be almist the same as a evo swap I would work on internals ($1200) as a deffinate thing to do - engine management would be the biggest expense but there are ways around that too

Theres no turbo kits for the 4g69 in australia that i know of, but in the US theres a company called RRM that makes one for about 5k or so.

basically. spend thoouuuuuusands on a lancer thats fwd, or spend just a weency bit more on a real evo thats awd plus reliable. your choice.
