CG Rear Disc Brake Conversion

Has anyone attempted a disc brake conversion to the rear of their CE/CG/CH? The drums are fine I suppose but I'd really prefer to have calipers all round to put my mind at ease

Are the standard drums boosted? Will brake bias be affected if I just swap the entire rear hub assemblies over? Do the handbrake cables bolt up?

drum -> disc conversion its only worth it for the *woo-hoo* appeals IMO
if you want brake power, upgrade fronts .

you swap the rear trailing arms (which have the caliper mounts on them) + hubs, disc, lines etc etc, basically your swapping over 80% of the rear suspension, only thing that wont change is the LCA's and shocks and upper arm

you want something that looks like this to bolt on ;)

Yeah fronts are fine I just hate the look of the drum rears, hideous

*woo-hoo* appeal it is! Now to see what the local rip off merchant wreckers want for the bits.

Cheers lads :D

Edit: From the feedback I've heard, I'll never deal with RPW. That and they are in Perth.

I've done it on my ce. Got it from hens for around 500 with slotted. Everything in bolt on and cables match no need for suspension changes. But this was for a coupe...... Braking is improved and it will be easier to pull handbrake turns now ;p

i would consider rpw as a last resort, alot of their stuff can be found cheaper elsewhere

have you ever done a rear disc conversion before?
beware the handbrake lines.... :x
rear disc is one of the most pain in the arse mods EVER! thats why ppl who only want it for looks usually pass on it

Can you get traiing arms with a hub of 4x100?

Lol, we have been over this before i believe. The Protons are almighty once again. The 1.6L wiras came with rear discs in 4x100. Satrias and M21s also, but they are coupe/hatchs. Even still i wouldnt have the faintest wether or not they will bolt onto your suspension

pic was for example purpose only to show the general idea of a rear trailing arm

Haha res the conversion isn't that bad. You just have to follow the correct installation method

I reckon Res's conversion was hard coz he had to swap handbrake cables and add mounting brackets etc. I reckon with the trailing arms it would be almost plug n play.

Ive only ever heard Res dissing em.

i went thru hell with mine, 1 caliper's handbrake actuator inside the caliper was broken, the other caliper seized about a month after the 1st was fixed
spent more time than i care fixing them.

the discs can handle/balance the force of the twins upfront... which is alot better than the drums

Despite that, they still got some good info. GL with the mod, let us know how you get on :D
