Hi everyone,
I'm looking at getting a new exhaust for my 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR CF Manual 2.4l, but not sure where to get one. I've found xforce has a bolt on cat back option, but that is for the CJ. Would it fit? I was kind of hoping to get headers down, so a full exhaust system. Would it be cheaper/better to go custom and are there any good shops Located around Whittlesea about 40 minutes out from Melbourne.

Cant be sure cause I haven't looked under a CF but would recon they are the same as CJ. Throughout model run from 2007 t0 now there was only one change
around 2012 or so prior models had the muffler running across the back with a heat shield. From then to now muffler is front to rear on drivers side.
I live in diamond Creek. My car is a 2015 ES CJ. OH by the way is yours sedan or a hatch? 1st mod get a RalliArt inlet snorkel $175 new. Boy does it make an overall difference. Just clips in no alterations.
Alternative check with a dealer. Spare parts ask for serial number of each, if serial numbers are the same then muffler must be the same!!

It's a sedan, the xforce says it fits cj lancers 2013 on. Where'd you get the inlet snorkel from mate, sounds like a good mod

If it fits 2013- I'd say it'll fit and if not you'd be able to work something out with them. The design didn't change much for a very long time.
Custom catbacks can be had for 300-400 so use your judgement and get some quotes from exhaust shops before you buy a full system.
I'd buy off the shelf for pure benefit of being able to install myself - if that sounds too painful or not your cup of tea, then that may influence your decision too

I'm pretty comfortable with installing it myself, that's why I think the xforce bolt on option is more appealing. Just a tad annoying that it doesn't come with headers and a high flow cat. Would rather replace the whole exhaust, then having half aftermarket and half stock

You might have to buy those seperate. If you cant get them to fit you might have to get them cut and welded to match. It's a bugger but definitely worthwhile

I think xforce have high flow cats for $100, just don't know where to get the headers from. Would you have to import them?

RA inlet snorkel can be picked up from Mitsubishi dealer, that's where I bought mine. As RA is no longer in production, suggest you get in quick $175 includes GST

I'm not sure about the headers, I'd use the internet and search your engine code and exhaust headers and see what pops up. The more local the better on shipping but you night be able to get some cool products you can't get here.

Was told by my dealer the snorkel didn't worry warranty and general feeling appears to be new muffler isn't a worry.
Some slight doubt about cat back. beyond that ie: Hi: flow cat and headers could well be reason to avoid warranty.

The CJ has an oxygen sensor before and after the cat, so make sure you look into how the high flow cat will work without throwing Check Engine Lights. Similarly headers can give you CEL grief. I had RRM ones and they at first were fine but eventually my car started throwing a CEL.

Soon as you change anything from stock you are likely to find the dealer or MMAL initially trying to get out of a warranty claim. Once you start doing things like changing headers and cats, then you will be much more likely to have any engine or driveline claim refused. Even if think their refusal in invalid, it will be up to you to fight them about it by going through the Tribunals...

What appears to be happening here is, Mitsubishi deliberately supply the car in a slightly detuned state to assist longevity,
to cover the warranty period. With as few problems as possible over that time and I see that as being reasonable but is it acceptable
and therein is the argument!

Are we entitled to have what we purchase running at its full designed efficiency! capability!
(a) Tuned by a professional, qualified mechanic within the limits of its designed capability!
(b) Utalising aftermarket items designed for this car and deemed proper and of an acceptable standard!

Every manufacturer does it, not just Mitsubishi. With variance in manufacturing between cars, varying quality of fuel, varying driving habits, varying climates, emissions test requirements, etc they need a conservative tune that will provide reliable service for everyone.

Realize and agree with all you say but thankfully, while not with Mitsubishi and a few other makes we can and do get
a larger non turbo engine. In many, can I say most makes you have to settle for a smaller turbo motor, with
some makers only offering a decent size motor in their priciest or pricier models. Why? Economical not economy!

In many countries the above setup, smaller motor with turbo attracts a reduction in taxes and charges, needed
by makers to keep competitive in a volatile market. So why bother with a special model that better suits our tiny market share.

Time will tell a story. With cheaper brands just whacking a turbo on a smaller motor with the same drivetrain with,
unlike the Mitsubishi RA up to MR, insufficient special attention and strengthening if any. Certainly drivetrains don't
appear to have been considered.

I know it’s very late, but did you end up finding that it fit?
