2.4lt CH exhaust help

Hey everyone. I may have skimmed past this topic so sorry if I have missed it.. Anyways I recently upgraded from the old CE to a 2007 ES 2.4ltr and now I'm looking to get my exhaust done, so I am just looking to know what the best size is to get done for the optimal flow and nice exhaust note, I've gone to a few exhaust shops and some have said 2.25 and others 2.5 which is confusing as anything, from my belief the 2.4 comes stock with a 2.25" exhaust already correct? so maybe 2.5 is the go?. I'm also looking to get a set of extractors and a high flow cat as well in a few weeks if that helps at all

if you just want sound, go with a straight through axelback (with a not cheap *poo* muffler) which sounds pretty darn good IMO

if you want actual performance, go with a 2.5in system.

got your pm

2.5 from the get go
expect some noise
you must use a good quality mufflers to keep the noise down pat and not some cannon *poo* with 20 inch tip that amplifies the noise even more.

a good header for 4g69 should have a collector of 2.5 inch in size
you can have a choke at the collector and taper it to 2.5 and this will salvage your low to mid range torque.
keep in mind a massive collector and no choke will have jack all low end performance and that entire low rpm range is in the toilet.

Thanks for the help guys I want to do this right and this will help a bucket load. Hens do you have a specific muffler in mind? High flow or tri flow is it? and a brand as well, is was thinking a stainless steel magnaflow maybe?. I know it has had a redback muffler replaced axle back but in my opinion it sounds crap right now. I also have no idea what a choker is either, I'm fairly un knowledgeable with this. I definitely want to keep that low end performance.

I had a lukey ultra flow and that sounded great - I also tested a 44mm set of extractors and I loved the mid to top end better than the 41mm extractsor and I also had a 21/2" pipe work all up great performance and did not sound like *poo*

I'm not quite sure what this means are you able to explain it a little more for me at all. I just want to get this right the first time and order the right parts before I take it in to get installed. as much help as possible would be highly appreciated Henry.. Thanks in advance.

The meet point where all the exhaust gasses go right out of the engine, should be about 2.5" wide. You can change around the width of this meet point to change your low to mid range torque. As for specifics, i cant help you as i dont have a car with a 4g69 :)

the extractors collector and flex pipe is probably the point where your restriction is, get 2.25 inch or 2.5 inch after the 2nd catalytic converter, it doesn't really matter if you're just chasing sound or can't be bothered upgrading higher up the exhaust.

I'm planning on doing the whole exhaust Liom, extractors back and I'm chasing performance along with a good sound

As i said it really doesnt matter provided you get a reasonably flowing muffler which diameter you go with unless boosting. The gains will be had with extractors to 2nd cat exhausts. If confident you'll do the rest go 2.5 but if really chasing performance i'd do extractors first.

I probably should have said that earlier but yes, I plan to get the whole lot done at once (extractors, Hi-Flow Cat and Muffler). I plan to go magnaflow for the cat and muffler, just unsure what brand is best for the extractors. Once I have all the info I can buy the parts and take it to the exhaust shop to be installed.

I dislike suggesting this but if you want to retain your first cat RPW sell a set of extractors that include the first cat in the flex pipe. it's a bit expensive but it's one of the few solutions that replace the restrictive flex pipes in one unit with the extractors.

Im picking up a set of these shortly and on the site it said the "motor needs resetting" after installation. Any ideas what this entails?

only issue with those units are they don't replace the cat in the flex pipe as I said, they're probably good enough, but I did a fair bit of research into how the 2.4 was set up in Aus and I can say with a fair bit of confidence that 1st cat will be the biggest point of restriction.

it may throw a code with the new exhaust on, o2 sensors may not like it for whatever reason (assuming it has the appropriate spot in the extractors to fit it, may need to look at options like o2 sensor blocker things they have that tell the ecu everythings working as intended, and prevent it from running an extremely rich air fuel mix.

and yes, after any engine mod you should reset the ecu by taking the leads off the battery for about half an hour, will run like *poo* for about 5-10 minutes after reset but then come good.
