Transporting an unregistered vehicle - Victoria

Looking at buying myself something olddddddddd.

Anyway 2 questions.

1. Can I obtain the permit from vicroads over the phone? Tried to ring them today and got hung up on saying they were busy.

2. And the more important question: will anyone insure me on the ride home? For like a day or month or whatever? Knowing my luck I'll hit someone when I don't have insurance.

Thanks guys

Can't tell you about Vicroads, not sure on the rules - but you should be able to get a permit for driving an unregistered vehicle home. But in regards to insurance. Most insurers have a cooling off period of 3 weeks, so you could get the insurance, then not go ahead with it. But I doubt you'll be able to get insurance for an unregistered car to be driven.

Yeah I was just wondering if I had to do it over the phone or not, figured I'd ask it while I was here.

Main thing was insurance, even If i have to pay a ridiculous amount for the day It'd be worth the piece of mind considering if I buy the one I'm looking its a 1.5hour drive(fingers crossed its good on saturday). Realistically I'll be right but god knows. I can't see anyone giving me it either....:(.

You might be able to get it on a truck, then insure it that way as goods protection?

yeah but the advantage of getting a car 45 years old that I can drive home is that I don't have to pay for a truck lol
