Timing belt & water pump kits

Not sure where to find info on this but i’d like to know whats the right brand to go with for timing belt kits and waterpumps for the 4g69’s.

Someone who rallys a 2.4L CH told me Dayco is the only brand to use and that Gates is unreliable. I’d like other people with 4g69 experience to give some input about this as i’ve never done my timing belt or water pump before. And while i’m on the topic, is there any special tools i’d need or want to have to do this job on a 4g69?

Not specific to the 2.4L, but both Dayco and Gates are Original Equipment suppliers for any manufacturers, including OE replacement spares. I prefer Gates to Dayco, but its like oils where everyone has a preference.

Go genuine on the tensioner! DAYCO units have failed on me in the past, and despite the warranty replacement, I was not a fan of the repeat repair process.

Mitsu won’t sell a kit, so maybe get whatver brand kit you like and the tensioner from them. Or individually order the parts from mitsu - there is a secondary belt which MUST be replaced and timed.

For the marks, sus this THREAD

for the eccentric pulley you will want a tool like THIS. Can be done without but it’s annoying and harder to get right.

In terms of general tools you will only need the basics and a decent impact gun to crack the crank bolt.

I found long multipoint 10,12 and 14 mm spanners to be very handy.

So pretty much, i should be good with the gates belts and pulleys i just need a genuine mitsu hydro tensioner?
