Sub and Amp Install

Hey everyone was curious to know if anyone has had much to do with sub and amp installs in the CJ i was recently given some alright gear to put in and since its a freebie from a mate who can resist ! basically im wondering how hard is it ? once you get your 12VDC supply to the boot? is it pretty straight forward? i have little experiance in this sort of stuff but as a sparky i have abit of an idea and was going to have a crack if not il call in a guy i know thats an auto spark, any tips / suggestions /heads up greatly appriciated !

the hardest part of the sub/amp install in the CJ was getting the power through the firewall safely.
mongoose, hugh-ce and myself ended up cracking it and running it through the passengers side fender, and into the cabin that way.
I believe a grinder was briefly used by mongoose as I shut my eyes.

ah thanks man, tommorow is the momment of truth ahah il get stuck into it will let you know how it all goes !

Yeah definitely look into running that through the fender, there was about 0 choices of rubber grommets and after chopping into a few of lioms we realised even if it fit, it was too hard to find and pull through, even with the dash apart.
The grommet all the Americans use is on our drivers side, since it's their passenger side they have all the space in the world to operate. We just got screwed! Goodluck! Hopefuy yours isn't as temperamental as Liam's either hahaha.

Basically the same process

Dem feels when my diy is useful :') but if yea, pretty much the exact sam proccess for nearly every car!

Ok, so the power cable came through the front left fender very little dramas there and hid nicely under the door panels :D RCA's and power control wasnt a majour issue either and all went smoothly very happy with the result and will post some pics sooon :)

If you jack the car up and take the passengers side wheel and inner mud guard off then there is a grommet down low which goes into the "side rail" of sorts and then another grommet on the inside. I got 2x 4 gauge into my CJ through this method. I'm wondering why you would need to even think about using a grinder :?

Are you talking about the grommet behind the strut tower that comes out above the pedals? If so it's very easy to get a cable through. I used this route for non-audio related cabling. But for power cabling stick to the passengers side one as that is closer to the battery and avoids running cabling all round the engine bay...

Not sure why you guys had such trouble getting the cable through? I got mine through easily..

I'll post a pic when I get home.

The M21 I'm taking apart has a amp power cable they ran it through the speed whole but between the grommet and metal so probably only a mater of time before it shorted out.

Never tried an amp/sub install myself but might as the installer changes $200 to do the work.

I didn't realise the m21 was the same as the CJ?

Not saying it's the same, just there is a right way and wrong way to run a power line through the firewall and having the wire rubbing the metal is just asking for trouble down the line no matter what car you install it in to. I realize some cars are harder an they may need to go through the fender to get into the car.

Just like to say I got so stressed by the money i spent on the system and I couldnt get power through, that I went to jaycar and spent $120 on a stalk camera to look into the hole and find my power cable...
