As the title says, has anyone attempted/know anyone who has attempted or successful completed a RWD conversion for a lancer?

I aim to do it so I can eventually enter it in drifting contests as the only RWD lancer that most people know of :p

LOL, not that Ive heard of, AWD is fairly popular with the serious lancer modders.

You could use an EVO/GSR rear diff. Then Spin your engine on the side and use a gearbox from a Delica/Starwagon/L300

The thought has crossed my mind as a paddock basher haha, it would have to be neat, or have a firewall for that matter.

Yeah mate its been done before... Just used an EVO AWD box locked to RWD. Believe it or not the tail shaft / rear subframe / diff / hubs / brakes / driveshafts / knuckles from S13 silvias bolt straight up to lancer rear ends.

My mates mate has done it to a few lancers they are currently competing in the D1GP over in japan. Even manabu orido has driven one and loved it!

This is how you'd do it, but the question I would have to ask is why??

Unless you have big money to spend modding the chassis, engineering it,etc then I would just save up and buy a GSR or Evo. You'll get a better performing car for your dollar in my view and have less hassles. But if doing a version is a must then why not go AWD, it'll be better for handling especially in the wet.

He wants to drift it.

In which case you'd be better off just buying an Evo and making that RWD only - better chassis to start off with, engine already in the car, better suspension (though would need replacing if you were going to drift it).

For the chassis alone it's worth getting the evo/gsr over a bog standard econobox lancer.

haha I understand that, but my lancer is my baby, i intend to do crazy things to it, basically the only thing thats gonna be from the original car is the chassis
plus the more work i put into my car, the more I value it and feel better about myself, cause its my car the way i want it and noone else is gonna have anything similar

sounds like you a mad modder, but yes doing it like said above is the best way

im going to try not sound like a cunt...

but unless you can personally weld, hav an idea of manufacturing and access to a machine shop, and deep pockets...dont bother. you said in other thread you hav no idea about a lot of car things. you posted a thread about 'stretching tyres' thought the two words were pretty much self explanatory.

but, for your information, there'd be two ways to do it. One is an ok way, the other is a proper way.

1) buy and evo drivetrain and engine.

-buy said evo drivetrain/engine
-lock the box to rwd
-install PPGearboxes straight cut transfer case gears if you want the transfer case to last more then one clutch kick
-cut out lancer rear floor
-weld in evo rear
-custom tailshaft to suit your coupe
-install all the parts, wire it in etc etc

advantages being its all mitsu, all installed relatively easy
disadvantages: east/west motor trying to put down power north south. the transfer case is just one more point of failure

look at team orange: all north south converted evo's

2)
-cut away the floor, the rear end, the front end
-weld in silvia underbody/front end
-weld in evo rear floorpan
-utilise silvia drivetrain etc, hook it up to the evo rear diff

this echo was converted to RWD: http://www.build-threads.com/build-thre ... ota-platz/
it uses all silvia gear. why? cause its cheap, common and heaps of adjustable arms.

also, look at the pics, no much echo left under there.

so answer this:
can you weld and hav access to a machine shop?

or

do you have deep pockets to pay someone to do it?

this will not happen garunteed, it will cost u a rediculious ammount of money that u really cant imagine
also u will be without a car for a very very long time

ppl who have done it have done a good job, but seriously buy an evo 5 and u could do it cheaper and have more power

time to lock me thinks.... :)

guys over in japan are crazy, RWD EVOs and RWD WRXs drifting in D1.

good luck! PM if you would like it re-opened.
