A DIY for pulling off your fenders for any reason at all.

What you will need:

1x 10mm socket set
1x medium socket extension (5cm+)
1x long socket extention (10cm+)
1x small flathead screwdriver
1x medium flathead screwdriver
Optional - Rust inhibitor
Optional - an old rag

Step 1: First of all you will want to take the front tyre off whichever side you want to get the fender off. So go ahead and do that by loosening the wheel nuts, jacking up the car and then taking the wheel off completely.

Step 2: Take the indicator out of the fender by either pushing it out from inside the fender, or by sliding/prying it out of the front of the fender with a flathead screwdriver (wrap the screw driver in a cloth so you don't damage your paint). Once it's popped out, unclip it and put it to the side for later.

Step 3: If you have mud guards, now is the time to take them off. There will be 3 bolts, all can be undone with the 10mm socket. Keep the mud guard and its bolts separate from the rest of the bolts you pull out later on.

(Optional) Step 3.5: You can at this point (if you want) undo the grommets and bolts in the lining of the plastic splash guard (or whatever you want to call it) so that you can see all of the bolts easier. Be prepared for a massive pain in the ass when trying to put the grommets back in later on though.

Step 4: This is when you can start taking out the bolts of the guard itself. There are a few up around the inside of the guard in the wheel arch, 3 along the top of the guard (you will need the bonnet open to access these 3). There is also one sneaky bolt that is only accessible by opening the front door and undoing it with the long socket extension, little asshole.

Step 5: You will need to pull the indicator form the headlight out on whichever side you are removing the fender from. All you need to do here is unclip the spring in the engine bay that holds the indicator firmly in place, then slide it directly outwards from the headlight. The yellow line is where the spring is located, you will need to feed it through the small hole you can see in the picture. The blue circle is where your indicator would otherwise be.

Step 6: This will reveal 3 more bolts for you to undo, indicated by blue arrows. All 3 can be undone with the 10mm socket.

Step 7: By now you should have undone all the required bolts and screws needed to remove the fender, which is roughly 15 or so if you took off the splash guard too. So gently pry it off the bolts from the indicator first and the rest will follow soon after.

Step 8: Clean up the area before you put your fender back on, it's a good time to clean out any dirt that has accumulated over the years and an even better time to throw some rust inhibitor on troublesome areas.

Step 9: To put the fender back on, simply follow the above steps in reverse. Remember that troublesome bolt inside the front door and to make sure your indicator is held in firmly before you finish.

Good guide.

Just wondering I have some side skirts, will this affect taking the guard off as it 'wraps' around the guard where the mad flap is.

yes it will slightly and depending on how they're attached to the car could make getting the fender off without damaging the skirts impossibru.

If you dont have them fully sikaflxed on, you just have to worry about the bolt at the bottom of the fender. Either cut the sikaflex and reapply the skirt later, or you'll need to fix the guard while its still on the car
