Hi all,
Just bought a CC lancer sedan, 1.5L carbie manual for my son to learn to drive in.
Cost me a whopping $200
He's only 12 so he has a few years yet for us to both fix it up a bit for him.
The previous owners had obviously never heard of maintenance, they drove it until the front brakes were metal on metal, then kept going for a while after that.
Its missing one inner pad completely. people like that make me mad...
Its also got some horrendous bearing noise in the gearbox, so that'll need replacing.
Im a mech by trade and i have my own cars to build, my pride and joy being a Datsun 260z with RB25 in it, so hes in good hands as far as mods go.
Plans are to put the GSR body kit on it, a nice set of wheels, a coat of paint and do the interior.

Welcome. Not to flog off my gear (lol) but i have a bunch of CC parts available in the sale section, if anything tickles your fancy.

I'll have a look at what you have.

This is my car,

I want a Datsun, exactly like that, in my colour. Looks wicked!

Your son is set! Haha how cool to have your own car for that long before you can drive.

Welcome

Nizm0zed, looking forward to seeing the progress of the son's CC over the coming mths , the datto looks good man.

Cheers

Cheers guys :D

Theres the build thread for my zed, if you wanna have a look.
Half the pics are missing, stupid imageshack...
I'll fix that one day.

As for the boys car, $35 for a stock carbie air filter?!?!?
Ill just built a cold air intake and custom alloy airbox to suit this pod i have lying around and it'll be reusable.
This is probably going to end badly, but hes going to love his car haha

Not sure if it's the same for carbys but on the efi model the intake starts behind the drivers headlight, loops down to the wheel arch and up to the airbox. If you rip out the section from the headlight to the wheel arch you get a free CAI.

so, lemme bounce an idea off you lot.
I was drinking last night and had an idea for my sons car,
First up, hes learning to drive in it and will have it as a P plater, so turbo conversions and other massive power adders are out of the question.
But, i considered that because its a carbied car originally, perhaps i could make an adaptor manifold to take twin DCOE webers?
Sure, its never going to make a lot of power as a 1.5L but with a nice matching cam and tuned exhaust, it'll look impressive and sound good.
This will be a good focus to keep it light and make it handle.
Its also unconventional and unique.

Thoughts? Anyone ever done it?

I don't know enough about carbys tbh to comment on that plan. I'm assuming the twin carb set up will be pretty fun.

You could put the 1.8L in and go EFI, couple of the guys doing the dohc conversion from a proton m21 which can later be turbo'd. But considering you have all the time in the world, the unconventional sounds way more fun!

Unconventional yes. Unique yes. Worth it...debatable. I would recommend a dohc 1.8 swap simply for both power and reliability. No dicking around with a carby. It would also be an insanely good father and son activity, moreso than a double carby. Car would be more reliable and parts easier to source which are both positives especially for a learner. Also gives you multiple pathways in the future for more teamwork. Makes it more of a build than a showpony.

Still would be sick to see a double carby

The sound with twin webers is amazing. Definitely worth ago. Twin 38's or 40's?

Long live the Zeds :D
My work mate has a 280Z and just bolted a turbo on the L28, not as good as the 240 or 260 though
