Lancer Reliability.

So, I own a 2003 CE Lancer GLi with the 1.8 4G93 SOHC in it and it's done 212,000 kms. This got me thinking about long term reliability of not only my car but Lancers in general. So anyway, how are/have your rides been over your ownership ??? Anyone heard about some Lancers lasting some crazy long time ???

Lancers are pretty reliable from what I gather and they seem to last quite a while if taken care of properly.
There is no reason for the engine not to last past 300,000km if serviced and taken care of

i almost have the same car as you kinko - 2001 is the only difference and 213000 kms. just get your mechanic to have a look at it. maybe change the timing belts etc . all that stuff that needs doing with so many kms. but overall they will last a long time if well looked after. my mechanic estimated mine to last at least 350000kms if looked after with the current engine

The fact is, even if the head gasket *poo*s itself, finding a 1.5L or 1.8L isn't that hard, and would cost you the same amount as to get a timing belt done at the mechanics. Thats one good thing about lancers and reliability, parts are everywhere.

So far my lancer is going strong, done a good 20,000km on it (picked it up and 90,000km), had timing belt, water pump, oil done when i got it, and besides from the clutch being a tad fail it's been good. I've estimated my engine to last around the 250,000 mark, mainly because I think the turbo will get the better of it.

the cc wagon i have has just over 400 000 on the engine and it still runs just as well as my cg.
it does use a bit of oil but hey for 400 000 kms you would expect something like that.
i want to see if the engine will break the 500 000 kms mark

my lancer was fine till i started modding it, then it became a little bit unreliable, but thats to be expected
keep it stock and do regular checks and u'll be fine for a long while

Mine has almost 300k on the clock, never had an issue apart from battery and what not, i thrash the *poo* out of it and its still got heaps left in it.

friend of mine has a very much modded 4G93 which has 135+hpatw and he drives his car hard the car is close to having done 320kklm - it is looking a bit sad at the moment
Regular oil changes are the secret for long engine life... I have found that it is the bottem end that fails and certainly change the head gasket over when you start looking at 200kklm

It's cool too see how many people have seemingly spent a lifetime in these cars and have had very little issue. I am kinda worried about mine as I have no cash to buy another car nor the work situation but I do try to look after it. :) Got a 2" custom cat-back with a resonator and custom muffler for it, but other than that hoping she lasts me till 300,000 (got it at 205,000) so yeah. I think I would call that even :p :)

chowetimes spot on, i change my oil every 5k no matter what. doesnt miss a beat.

Thats true, Joshys car sees the limiter everyday LOL

its not like its expencive to buy oil+filter every 2 months anyway, i do mine every 5k aswell
its kept my engine alive on the brink of death for a long while now doing it regularly

Just re-read this, and clutch fail how ??? Mine feels a bit vague and it sometimes takes a good yank to come out of gear but I'm guessing that's just age.

Coming out of gear wasn't my problem, is was going into gear and adjusting the clutch release fixed it, brought my friction point alot further out, previously I would get friction straight away slowly bring the clutch up, and sometimes it wouldn't full disengage, this was fixed by a full fluid service, rebuilds of both clutch cylinders and a good adjustment, she is sexy now, but also has point out that my 2nd is a bit rough :p Cause? I wouldn't have a clue, probs from 100,000km of riding the clutch by the previous owner.

Haha, legend :p Might ask mine to do it when I get a service which isn't too far away actually. Sigh... More money... :p
