Joe - Canberra - CE Mirage

Hi all

The title probably sums up the bulk of what's going to happen in this thread, but also I guess that's true of most threads.

My name is Joe, I live in Canberra, and bought a '96 Mirage around six months ago. Picked it up super cheap (as in the amount of rego remaining meant the car itself was ~$200) to use as a daily. I had used a motorbike for the last ~seven years as my commute was 10kms of heavy traffic plus expensive parking in the city, but a new job last year saw that change to 25 kms of basically empty highway and free parking. Still ran the bike for a few months but once it started getting colder, I realised that a consistent 100km/h was significantly worse than a varied 0-60km/h in negative temperatures, so I decided the motorbike was no longer the right vehicle.

Cue one CE Mirage with faded paint, low kms, and a cheap price tag. Daily sorted. No more getting rained on and it's even got a functioning heater! Winner!

Plans are to play with it a little, but cheap is still the aim of the game here. I'd like to make it more comfortable and to clean up the looks, but it is very much still to be a daily. Everything done has to make it better at that job. I've already ticked a few boxes on that list and will be starting a build thread shortly, so look out for that I guess.

Other project at the moment is an '85 Suzuki Mighty Boy which is used as a motorkhana car. Have had it for about 18 months, and so far have swapped out the stock 550cc three cylinder and four speed manual for a 1L and five speed from an early 90's Swift. Also added bigger wheels and Formula Ford slicks on the front. Many more plans for it but it has won it's class in 5/5 events so far and done far better overall than it had any right to, so can't complain too loudly.

Thanks for having me so far and I'm looking forward to learning more from the forum.

Cheers,
Joe
