Few questions about pod filter (noob)

Hey all just got a few questions about pod filters not sure if they are already out there but thought I would ask anyway

I am referring to the k and n style pod filter
1) Do they improve the noise of your engine?
2) Do they actually increase performance
3) What is the best quality pod for a CE II GLXI Lancer?
4) How difficult and what is the process of fitting the pod?
5) What are the legalities of having a pod installed in NSW?

Thanks for any help guys, Adam.

1) yes, they have a bit more growl
2) no, a filter is a filter, power is not gained by a simple filter swap
3) depends on budget, IMO apexi is the best, has the best flwo rates and is not oiled, and also the best filtration
4) depends how u want it fitted, short ram intake is easy but sucks hot air which is bad, whereas cold air intake is a bit harder due to more piping needed but makes better power
5) not sure about NSW, but the general rules are that the pod must be enclosed and be safely secured to the chassy

I can answer q's 1, 4, and 5.
Q1) yes. When you get inti the higher revs you can hear it sucking in air and it gives your exhaust not a deeper drone.
Q4) it is quite a simple easy process. You just unclip an unbolt the stock airbox and take it away from the car. Then just put your pod on with these silver ring things (sorry i dont know what there called.)
Q5) it must be enclosed. Thats it. I just went down to bunnings and bought some piping and put it in there. Worked a treat.

Brilliant! Thanks guys, I think I will get one, where is the best place to pick one up? Any stores or is eBay the best way to go? And how will I know what will fit?

For a lancer you need an adapter. I just went to supercheap auto. Cost me 32 bucks for the adapter and pod. K&n ones can go for 110 on ebay.

measure the pipe, i'm guessing 2.5 inches, it might need an adapter plate to fit properly. easy way to do it if you're not sure is just rock up to a place like autobarn and have a look at their adapter plates, filters or just ask someone, they might even test fit it on the spot.

edit: beaten, just lol.

Its not the O2 sensor, that is on your exhaust, its the MAF sensor. I doubt it comes with bolts, but surely you can goto bunnings and find some??

Or just use the bolts that are already there. I sheared the inside bit of mine so i had to buy new ones.

buy new bolts (from a nut n bolt store).
be careful when you remove the MAF from the airbox
