Hey guys,

searched the google, and came up with no solid answer for me so

Q: how do you know what size AN? ANE? fitting is needed for certain sizes? as it doesn't seem to correspond to any millimeter or inch or centimeter equivalent.

rephrase of question in case that made no sense.
If i was planning to make a braided fuel line, i measure the stock fuel line diameter it gives X measurement, i buy that size braided line, how do i know what AN fittings are the correct size for that line diameter?

bonus question: what is ANE fittings compared to AN, i saw that on my confusing research

don't ask me why i want to know, I just want to learn about it for the future.

AN Fittings are based on imperial measurements.

Basically take the dash number (eg. -8) and divide the number by 16. That gives you the hose size OD. So it will be 8/16=1/2 so 1/2inch hose will suit a -8 fitting.

-6 = 6/16 = 3/8s

They locate and seal via a taper style lock. requiring no seals or o rings etc.

From wiki

AN sizes range from -2 (dash two) to -32 in irregular steps, with each step equating to the OD (outside diameter) of the tubing in 1/16" increments. Therefore, a -8 AN size would be equal to 1/2" OD tube (8 x 1/16 = 1/2). However, this system does not specify the ID (inside diameter) of the tubing because the tube wall can vary in thickness. Each AN size also uses its own standard thread size.
