Exhaust - Maybe a dumb question sorry

Hi all,
i have notice a few CJ's around now since i just purchased on 2 months ago and have noticed that they seem to have a large ugly rear muffler going from left to right at the rear of their car. Mine on the other hand is a normal front to back configuration and about half the size. Now i purchase this car new so i don't expect to have an upgraded exhaust.
The pics are of my exhaust, can anyone tell me if it's bog standed? I'm guessing it is.
Also i measured the pipe diameter in milimeters. From the headers and before the second resinator/muffler the OD pipe size is 53.5mm, but after he second muffler to before the last muffler it's 47mm. So in the future if i'm going to update the exhaust do i need to get rid of the last bit of exhaust (47mm size) or just go 2.1/4inch all the way or is the 53mm (2 inch ID) all the way good enough?

I think Mitsubishi have used many different revisions with the exhuast in the CJs. The original MY08s seemed to have a large muffler at the rear that looked like a petrol tank.

Then the MY09 VRXs (4B12) had a different one something like this:

Looks like they have again changed it on yours. What year model is it?

The original MY08s also had 3 mufflers in them.

If I were you I'd just replace the rear muffler with a Magnaflow, there really isn't a need to replace the exhaust piping unless you are doing some serious mods.

On later models they changed the last muffler type as you've noticed, removed the rear sway bar and routed it differently.
I believe from my10 onwards, as mine is a my09 with the old style

Thanks Ryan, Liom and Lead. That answers it for me.
Liom, do you mean they removed the rear sway bar completely? I'm sure i didn't see one when i was under the car so i'm thinking of putting one in providing it doean't affect my warranty ;o).

Can't be done. Can't get a sway bar for our cars unless they came with it factory, looked everywhere man, only way is to get one custom made.

Manufacturers don't like to make lots of toolings for different parts. You'd be wise to compare between models and you'll possibly find the CJs without the sway bars still have all the required holes. In which case you'd then just need the brackets, boots and sway bar end links from a wrecker. Or possibly whiteline maybe able to supply them as a kit.
