Hi All,

First time poster so be gentle. I have lowish mechanical knowledge so please answer as if noobie..thx.

Ref 2006 2.4L CH ES Lancer 5spd Manual. with 200000k

So today, started up and got about one km down the road, going through roundabout in fourth and the car just died as I guess just as I was about to accelerate out. Rolled over to edge, tried to restart and it is cranking but no firing at all. Towed it back to home and have checked the following. Battery fine, all fuses fine both in the bay and the cabin, pulled out sparks and the things that they are plugged into but appears no spark, they also are dry. Changed them around to different cylinders, no change. Undid fuel line where it runs into the injector manifold or rail and fuel came out. I have the high pitch pump noise when turning the barrel to IGN which I assume by other posts in here is the fuel pump priming as well as the clicking that runs for 5 seconds. Tried the other key incase the immobilser code in my normal key failed.

When I was testing the fuses, I did remove the ECU for a couple of secs and replaced it immediately, just incase it needed reseating.

Also, no mods to the car, just an UHF radio hardwired into ACC circuit but switched off at the time.

So I have a vehicle that is cranking, seems to be getting fuel but will not fire at all on any cylinder? Thoughts please and hoping it may be simple like a relay or fusable link that I am unaware of.

Cheers,

Alistair

Not sure if it helps but I had an issue like this about two weeks ago with my 07 ch, I switched keys and suddenly the car wouldnt start, I swapped back to the original key and it worked fine, not sure if you have swapled keys recently but my car was an imobilizer issue, it started and ran for the first time, (about 5 mins) then stopped and would crank, however not start.

Thanks for quick reply. No I haven't changed keys recently and I have tried both my keys with no go.

Car was running fine yesterday, just seems something has failed this morning after I started and drove for a few minutes.

Ah soumds the exact same as my issue, shame it wasnt the same fix :/ one of the guys here should be able to help you man, i. Pretty useless with abit of this stuff :p goodluck mate.

So after a little bit of research and some more troubleshooting, there is a consensus that it could be the crank angle sensor that has failed (or the wiring from there to the ECU). So having a mobile mechanic drop out with diagnostics to check the sensors and let me know. Apparently I can have the CAS replaced and installed for $500, which seems a good price considering its located under the timing cover which requires a bit of effort to get to. I'll let you know.

Problem resolved...so not electrical, mechanical....the hydraulic tensioner failed on the timing belt, caused to cam sprocket to spin and end up 45 degree off tdc and ripped off four lugs. Luckily the Lancer cut out within a second of the fault which has saved the valves and head.....so back up and running.
