Hey
As you may know i got new speakers and needed a new parcel shelf to accommodate them. So here is how i did it .
For this you will need
A sheet of thin MDF 1300 x 400mm
A Sheet of material (i used a black suede sorta thing) 1400 x 500mm
A can of spray adhesive
Selley's gel grip
A pencil
A saw
A Stanley knife
A Drill
Sandpaper
Firstly the Parcel shelf was removed (as seen in my other DIY ) and was placed onto the sheet of MDF. The basic outline was then traced onto the MDF and this was cut out. You may notice on your parcel shelf that there are tabs that bend down. Trace them flat for now and this will be amended later.
Once i had the right shape i traced out the the necessary holes for the speakers and the brake lights etc.
After everything had been test fitted it was now ready to have the fabric put on it. Both the fabric and the MDF was sprayed with Adhesive.
When both become tacky the MDF was pressed onto the flat material.
This was left for 30 min to partially dry. The material was then cut to wrap around the edges of the MDF. It was at this point that i scored the tabs on the bottom of the shelf with the Stanley knife and bent the to the point where they broke off. As they are stuck to the fabric however they are now able to bend like the tabs on the original parcel shelf. You will notice in the next steps these are only held on by the fabric.
To bond these flaps to the underside Selly's gel grip was used.
Once again both sides where glued and left until they became tacky, then pressed together.
Now wait a few hours and you have a new parcel shelf!
Here you can see the difference in the material and speakers
Everything fits
DONE!
I hope this has helped anyone in the same situation i was . If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks for reading.
