Hi people, I just crashed my car and was quoted $4500 to fix it. Front damage. I pop the hood and checked, radiator cap area cracked, power steering fluid container damaged, washer bottle smashed and front bumper damaged. engine still starts but will overheat for sure even though i didnt try to run it for long.

Any suggestion on what should i do? Repair or not? wont get much from wreckers i reckon.

thanks

for $4500....
*fudge* it. start again
buy another MR, swap over ur mods, sell remaining items.

if it was me and my car in that situation i wouldnt get it fixed because it seems like alot of money for that sort of thing and $4500 can go along ways when second hand car searching, and it permanently lowers the resale the car "could" have, but maybe some pics might help enlighten the situation
im only saying this because iv been in a similar situation, but mine was rear damage and cost $2000 to fix, i ended up getting it fixed mainly because i was not at fault so i did not have to pay repair costs or any of that
so post up some pics and some ppl here will have a better opinion than myself, (hopefully :p )

yeah some pics would help, from what you have said doesn't seam like to much to fix

Insurance gonna cover it??

Pending on where you got the 4500 quote from most likely only half that cost if its a insurance smash repair quote or less if you go second hand parts as they will quote new..

Easy way to work out if worth it jump on ebay type in parts needed and work out a average price for each part.

if your handy that doesn't seem like TOO large a job to fix on your own aside from painting the replaced parts.

will take some pictures later and post it up. thanks a lot.

not covered by insurance. unlucky me i guess. was thinking about getting used parts and fix it but as i live in uni and my car is also here which i don't have the space and tools to get my hands on.

would be able to replace the parts with second hand ones from wreckers. hardest part would be welding a new radiator support in if yours is bent, which i say would be the case.

ya. thats what i am afraid too regarding the radiator support.
anyway here are some pictures of the damage. everything else are still intact.

Yeah I'd say ditch it, since it's not just panels that need fixing (chasis, rad mounts, engine mounts by the looks as well) it would cost upward of 4k, start again would be my opinion.

Thanks for the advises guys.
now I am thinking if i should get the same car again or some others
Any other Mitsubishi model that have the similar attributes in terms of chassis and interiors? engine doesn't matter but hopefully 1.8 an above. definitely getting a manual this time. haha
I guess i just want to take out my stereos, bucket seats, steering wheel and LEDs

How much you got to spend? If you want 1.8 and dont have too much to spend you'll prob be best going another MR or a 4 door 1.8.The newer 2L engined lancers start up around the 7ish mark.

guys, how hard is it to take out the cat back exhaust nyself. I only have a normal car jack

i cant see it being too hard if u have a socket set, some ring and open end spanners

also.... JACK STANDS! +jack

for safety, coz we want u to be here tomorrow
also make sure its cooled down, and maybe dont take off the manifold bolts off the actual engine as they can snap :O
