Comfort + Good Handling?

Hi guys,

What is the best suspension setup for a coupe to achieve good handling but without having too uncomfortable of a ride?
Also I would like the car to stay pretty low.

Any help is appreciated

How long is a peice of string?

Youll have to define "good handling" and "uncomfortable ride". If you talk to Aaron (chocko) he will say if its not sparkings its not enough lol, if you talk to lancermr he will go on about rear down, front up, talk to res, hell say coilovers with medium ride height.

ill say, you can have one or the other not both, either low and handles on rails, or jacked n smooth.

how soft is confortable, everyone has their own tastes in suspension
maybe raise the ride a bit, set coils to a softer setting, front swaybar to lowest setting, and rear to mid setting
consider going back to OEM bushes rather than superpro

oh yeh on the tyres thing get smaller rims, the more rubber there will make it a bit softer, and less weight for the engien to push

g'day son  also alot of your comfort depends on what profile tires you are running, coilovers then set it up too your liking but if your gonna have it so theres no movement in the suspension i wouldnt suggest coilovers & just go a set of springs

its been lower then that^ but it was sooooo comfy even at its lowest that i would rather coiloves over springs anyday.....my VL is so bouncy i hate it but meh not much i can do really lol

If you take his advice, I feel sorry for you.

I feel the best combo for comfort but still venturing into the handling, get springs, some nice shocks, but then get a but load of bracing.

depends on a lot of factors

tyres, mainly brand and sidewall and whether they're stretched or not

swaybars, will stop body roll, but hav no effect on up and down movement of the car

bushes, be it stiffer or newer but decrease a lot of play in the suspension arms, but a trade off could/will be vibrations

springs/dampeners, these are the main factors. to do it properly, you need a stiff-ish spring with a good dampner. eg: a 12kg spring, on mid dampening will feel better/softer then a 10kg with full hard dampening, and itll handle better (on flat corners)

really, to get the optimum setup it will cost a lot of money. not to mention being low usually requires stiffer springs, so being low with factory spring rates in near impossible. id suggest some good tiens with highish spring rates and dampners made to suit. or if you feel like blowing 4k, get some DMS shocks and springs made up

Thanks for the replies guys,
I guess I meant which brand of spring is the softest?
Which brand of shock allows most travel, without going to coilovers?

New cars seem to be able to handle great and be comfortable. Is this something unachievable in a Lancer?

spetz, you just can,t have the best of both worlds so to speak. if you want LOW you will suffer, if you want SOFT you will suffer etc etc . shockie travell is reduced when on lower springs , soft springs will add to body roll. i would say if sticking to springs / shock struts go for a new set of Munro struts and rear shocks and pick the most suited springs from either Kings / Pedders / ? they all seem to have a different coil wrap to handle different conditions. also think about what wheel size you have plus what tyre profile you have as this makes a big difference as well in both handling and comfort as you may know.
