Cig lighter not working

Hey guys and girls, I have a fair bit of experience fixing cars and I need help with the cig lighter on my lancer, shes a 2001 model ce sedan and Ive checked all the normal fuses and they are fine, I think when I removed the head unit the other day the cig lighter wires might have been pulled out but I checked that too. I also had the horn moved to next to the steering wheel on the left, cause the guts of the horn on the steering wheel was missing and will be expensive to fix.
A link to the fuse box diagram would be handy, i couldnt find one online. For the engine bay as well.
Btw the lighter was working fine around 3 months ago before the modified horn was installed and since i played with the head unit.

Same thing happening to me, wired up my sound system next thing i know cig lighters not working
Looked at the back and it LOOKED as if it was wired up, but in reality all that was connected was the cig lighter light, and only one connection of two, make sure theres 3 connections (one will be for the illumination light) in total and it should work.

Yep that was it, I guess I should have looked a bit closer the first time, but my attention to detail sucks. lol

Ummm help... I have wired it all up but the lighter doesn't work and I no idea why... I checked the fuse and it seems to be fine so yeah... This is why I should just leave stuff alone :p

alot of the time kinoko in the lancers when u push the facia back in after hooking everythign up the black plug on the cig lighter pops off

happens alot to me, so just make sure its connected, i fking electrical taped mine on it falls off that much

if not that, change fuse anyway, they are cheap and some are hard to see if blown or not

Maybe try a new / 2nd hand outer case. I have seen a couple that can stuff up around where the small nut and clips are in your pic above.

Have you tried checking it with a multimeter or test light so see if its getting voltage to it???

Nah I don't have one... :( I have changed the fuse anyway though and no luck still... Everything else works except for the lighter which is annoying cause I need it for my GPS... Also no idea where that thicker black wire with the white bit on the end goes... :S Somehow ended up with it after pulling everything out...

Is there a tab on the side of the lighter? The black wire is your earth.

Any chance of a pic of your plug and wiring?

I had it going like this

I'm assuming the earth wire is this and I have no idea where it goes...

The bottom pic is an antenna cable (looks like mobile phone connection) or possibly a connection from your aerial (AM/FM radio)

Haha, well the radio still works fine to my knowledge... Still stumped by the lighter thing though... Sigh... Cause it doesn't work when I have everything connected up even when the console bit is out of the dash...

You may have had a mobile phone antenna / car kit installed in your car at some time in its life.

The cig lighter wiring is right. Black (earth) goes to outside and the other is your positive. If you can get your hands on a test light or multimeter it will make things easier. Test lights are cheap and are a good addition to your tool kit.

If you have 12v at the wires then it will be a faulty cig lighter and you will need to get a new / 2nd hand one

If no 12v then look at wiring / fuse / connectors

Try following the wires and see where they go and make sure everything is plugged in or bolted tight etc

No worries at all. Not having a cig lighter plug can be frustrating but I bet it is something simple and you will kick yourself when you find it :)

That thicker black cable looks like it screws on to that screwy bit right in the middle of the back of the head unit, no?

If you don't know what it is try and follow it for as long as you can, see which direction it goes in.

Nah it's not... Doesn't fit... I tried that already :p :) I think I might just pay someone to sort it out... I think I may have blown the lighter itself and I don't have any basic tools anyway to fix it...

how does one blow the lighter? i should just be part of a circuit... for cereals
there isnt really anythign to blow (besides the fuse)
the cig lighter is just a metal casing that is part of the circuit thats it

Like something inside the casing itself. I have changed the fuse and still no luck... It also doesn't work when it's all plugged in and I turn the ignition on.

In between the + and - there is insulation which can sometimes stuff up and the circuit will not work. It is possible to stuff them up but rare. Easiest way to find out is with a test light then go from there
