Chinese Double DIN steering wheel controls

Hey guys!

New member here, have had a lancer for almost a year now, 2012 base model es, have done all the upgrades I thought were missing, got a new head unit I liked with the GPS/bluetooth, new sound system, sub, amp. Everything works and sounds great... until, I realized I was spending too much time tinkering with the head unit just to switch songs, turn up and down volume etc. To me the position of the head unit was quite far from the driver, especially having volume up down all the way on the left. Therefore I purchased the steering wheel controls from a wrecker. I installed the controls plugged them in and looked at my head unit manual. My head unit claims it can tap straight into the signal wire with just 1 wire called Key 1. I read that the signal wire was a blue wire, so I got my audio guy to splice into it and connect the Key 1 key, but... we got nothing.

So my question is, has anyone successfully been able to get SWC to work, without adapters etc on a chinese head unit which claims you only need to use a wire called Key 1?

Not sure if links are allowed yet, but this is what I am using http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot-...ayer-with-Bluetooth-ATV-Radio/1465393976.html

As a follow-up question. The standard inbuilt mic sucks, but there is no external mic input, can you plug an external mic into the AUX input?

I used a PAC SWI-PS when I had my CJ to get steering wheel controls for my Pioneer sat nav unit. Here is a link to it's instructions for reference:

Does this seem to match the wire you are trying to tap into? Note by the looks you may have to ground another wire in the harness to ground to get it to work (if you can provide your instruction that may help people give advice).

As for the mic question, I highly doubt it but the only way to know for sure is to look through the manuals and the unit's menus to see if such an option exists. These units are cheap for a reason though....

Mate, you are a Champion I swear. :)

First things first, to clear up what the instructions told me to do, they told me to ground the grounding cable and the Key1 to the SWC signal cable, therefore I assumed my ground cable (from head unit) was already grounded... cause it is, and all I done was tap into the blue signal cable. What you've sent me makes perfect sense though and I had a feeling that was the case but I was too scared to try it. Of course I need to also ground from the loom, otherwise how would it calculate the difference in volts *durrr*. Thank you so much for that, when I have free time next (hopefully this weekend) I will put this method to test and also ground the Pin 2 wire as shown in that diagram.

As for the AUX input for mic, i'll just give that a go, not like it can ruin anything.

I'll be sure to come back and let you guys know, amazing response time really happy.

Thanks once again!
