Car sometimes struggles to start

For a while now, I've had a slight problem starting my engine. When I turn the ignition, the car will try to start, but sounds like it's choking a few seconds before starting properly. I never thought anything of it since it still started. However it seems to be becoming more of a problem recently, doing it almost every time I start up the car after it has been off a while, and the choking sound seems to go on longer too

Any ideas what could be causing this?
 
Could be your spark plugs or it could be battery related

Do you hear it turning over really slowly before it actually starts?

Erm I'm not sure what you mean... I'll upload a video of me trying to start it tomorrow morning so you can hear it. It turns on, but the rpms are around 500 and it sounds like it's about to instantly stall or something, once or twice it has just turned off again but most of the time it will remain around 500rpm, choking, then go up to around 2000 before idling around 1000
 
Sounds like the car starts okay, so that'd rule out the battery, no? What about a dirty throttle body or idle speed control valve on the blink?
 
Dirty mass air flow sensor, dirty throttle body, could be a few things.. If its not your battery, try disconnecting it for an hour to reset ecu then let it self learn to idle
 
Check the battery or terminal connections (cos they might be loose). It happened to me few weeks ago cause I removed the -ve terminal to work on the roof light but I didn't tighten it enough when I put it back. Car started to choke and only started with pedal on the accelerator :( and I was like dafaq
 
there is a part on the back of the ignition barrel that intends to play up on the ch lancers, best off to replace the part

It's called an ignition switch and you would get nowhere replacing that. The car is turning over and starting. Ignition switch would be if you turn the key and nothing happens, dash lights up but no crank.
