Apart from the obvious reasons to own a car, more often than not, we buy a particular car because it's fun to drive. We enjoy the enhancements we make to our cars because things like suspension systems, exhaust systems and other performance items give our cars superior handling and power increases.
There is a very important part of our cars often forgotten when enhancements are being considered... THE BRAKES !
Old-Fashion ‘rubber’ brake hoses traditionally fitted to cars have a relatively short reliable life. The estimated life of a typical ‘rubber’ hose is 6 years, then, they can become safety hazards.
So why go with Braided Stainless Steel Brake Lines:
- Modified vehicles are more powerful and are capable of greater speeds than ever before, constant heavy braking puts huge strains on the brake system. A brake hose failure under these conditions can spell disaster.
- The PTFE Teflon inner tube of Braided Hoses are compatible with all brake and clutch fluids.
- The braid is corrosion and flame resistant stainless steel. It also offers protection against abrasion.
- Braided Hoses will not expand under high pressure (volumetric expansion) and temperature, this allows a consistent line pressure giving a firmer and more efficient brake system operation, eliminating that ‘spongy’ pedal feel.
- This more efficient brake operation will lead to a reduced braking distance during a panic (hard) stop. Immediate brake pedal response increases brake efficiency.
I am writing this post, because a mate of mine has a franchise of a brake supplier/wholesaler (I wont mention the chain's name because it may interfere with sponsorship rights). He makes braided brake lines up from scratch, which are ADR42/04 approved. Now I am not suggesting he can make them up for you, I just want to mention that if you have them off your car and take them to a chain of brake specialists (like him) you can get some tasty braided brake lines for very little money. (I paid $120 for all four of mine - I know some will say eBay has them cheaper, but they do not have the nice yellow tag with ADR approval on it! Keeps it legal and Johnny Plod off your back!)
I think they're a useful, well-overlooked and simple modification, that provides as much benefit to your ride, as new suspension or better brake rotors, etc...
Something more to add to your lists!
