Hiya im new to this forum but thought id ask around anyway.

Im currently sourcing parts and advice to turbo my 04 ch vrx lancer with 4G94 engine.
i have a turbo off a what i think was a nissan rb20 which i bought off a work mate. I have most off the exhaust and intake and intercooler system piping and oil/cooling lines. ..And this is where im stuck at the moment :(

Im looking at getting a haltech ecu cause from what ive gathered from the net that would be the best option if your aiming for around about 10psi of boost. But im not sure what my options are and where to get it from and get it tuned.
Has anyone done a similar setup and who in melbourne would be good to get it all tuned at when its all put together?

Ive hit a bit of a roadblock and looking for any help and advice i can get :)
Thanks heaps guys

To me, reading that sounds like you still have a bit more to learn before having this running safely.

Realistically, any sort of aftermarket ECU will do the job of getting the car running with positive intake pressures, even a piggyback. Getting it running well is another adventure. 10psi is just a number - any ECU will let you reach it, but how many times will your engine last is another question?

Research all your major brands of ECUs (Motec, Adaptronic, haltec, Wolf, Link, Microtech), and see what offers what, and learn about what an engine will need when being boosted, that the same engine wouldnt normally encounter (large amounts of fuelling, stronger ignition, etc). There isnt anyone in Melb who is running a turbo'd 4g94, but there are a couple reputable tuners who will give you a hand, providing your ECU is one they support

Thanks for ur reply. I am still learning but it was hard to explain all the things I know and don't know without writing a novel. Stock 4g94's can handle up to 13psi without any rods or pistons etc. I'm looking at 10 maximum so as not to blow it up straight away. I'm now trying to get more info of exactly what steps would need to be done in order to do this successfully.
So I thought if I had some people who specialise in mitsubishis in Melbourne I could go see them before I start ripping it apart only to find out I'm missing aomething

No problem, you seem to have an idea of whats going on and dont seem to be mixing up too much, which is easier to help you with lol.

Factory boost on rb20 turbo is 7 or 10psi, so you should be safe with your turbo and engine.

step one: find an ecu that will let you edit fueling and ignition easily and safely, then learn about it and wire it all up (or get an auto-electrician to)
step two: start bolting everything up where it should go.
step three: get it tuned safely on idle, and below boost level (0 vac/0psi)
step four: get a tuner to get it running safely on positive pressures

I know this is probably contrary to what you want to hear, but my advice is don't.
This cheap part is buying all the 2nd hand parts and lines. But you'll run into huge costs with custom dump pipe and intake piping (no way a stock Rb20 intake/exhaust will work), then ECU is anyway from $500-$2,000 depending on what you choose, then getting it tuned can be $400-$1,000 depending on work, time, etc. Then if you can't wire up the ECU yourself and get a base tune, you'll start paying for labour as well... It's been stated on here that to run a safe low boost set up you need to sink at least 5k into it, which is fairly accurate.
Also, I won't preach this, since I don't know how true it is, but because of the longer rods, the g94 is probably not a good choice to do the build on. If you're deadset you might be better off dropping a 93 bottom end in, but keeping the 94 head as that way the wiring shouldn't change too dramatically.
Keep in mind the condition of your engine, the more KM's the quicker it'll blow rings, gaskets, etc.
You might be better off saving your coin, selling the CH and buying a Evo or similar for 15k or less (picked up my galant for 10k + 2.5k when I did the diff).

Just my 2c, if you choose to go ahead, gl with the build and make sure you document it :D

I appreciate ur 2 cents :)

I know this won't be cheap. I stumbled across this http://www.rpw.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=315&Itemid=550
the bottom it gets into turbo'ing

I'm getting the exhaust manifold and intake made up soon but before I do I just wanna sort out the ecu. I'd be happy spending1500 on it if I jknow it's going to work but I just don't know what to look for when it comes down to which ecu and who in Melbourne knows their stuff and would put it in + tune it

I wish I could find someone that's done it before for "inspiration". There's just not a great deal of info out there so Yeh :/

for a ecu i would suggest looking at a ecm link from the states, I had one in my cc gsr which made 500hp at all fours great ecu and that was for 4g93t so i dont see it being any different.( maybe wrong)just look on the site, its a chip inside your standard ecu and no need to hack up wiring and change stuff.

http://dsmlink.com/

also if you havent already got a exhaust manifold made up i would look at a td04 from a cc gsr or td05 turbo from evo 1-3 rvr. great little turbo and very punchy

Talk to member Luke "Icaruswings" he is running a 4g94 tuned on haltec, lives in Melbourne. He seemed super happy with how well they tuned his.. If you can't get onto him I'll PM you his mobile number

This might sound off topic , but it could come in handy with Rerkin88 Turbo build!!

Am i correct in saying that the CG & CH 4g94 Lancers Ecu can be flashed as long as the car doesn't have the immobilizer option ? ive been reading some stuff on EvolutionM that has helped 4g94 turbo builders

Is this true ?

If it's like the CE ECU's, then possibly. They're not too different of engine. But the issue there is all ECU's in Australia must have an Immobilizer to be classed as "legal", yet who would actually find out.

Yea mine has the immobiliser with the chip in the key. I wonder how that will affect an after market ecu. Might have to look into this a bit further then

Rerkin88 get a ride thread up when you can, cause that CH of yours is looking pretty damn good from your avatar
