4G93 EFI to Carbi conversion

could anyone tell me how hard it would be to convert a 1.8L EFI engine over to 1.8L carbi?
ive currently got a 4G15 1.5L carbi engine, would the throttlebody/dizzy fit onto a 1.8L?

interesting!

I doubt the TB will fit as the manifolds are completely different. But you could make your own, or make an adaptor plate.

The 1.8L come with Dizzys anyways, they use a power transistor tho, instead of an external coil. What does the 1.5L carb have?

I think for ease of fitment, you could use the 4g93 manifold, and use a carb of another car but similar sized engine, I know the suzuki sierra i had, used a pretty simple carb, was mounted sideways too. Tho it was only 997cc. And make an adaptor plate or mod the flange on the manifold.

There would be a fair bit of fiddling around with auxillary systmes i imagine, but at the end of the day, if your sparking at the right time, and you got fuel, you should be right.

the 4G15 1.5l carb has power transister aswell.

ill look into an adapter plate for it :D
im only doing this cuz i need a new engine(mine isnt blown) and i was going to upgrade to a 1.8 or do a conversion to 2.0L later on sometime but im thinking more just go with 4G93 and do a conversion to carb to save changing wiring looms :D

Its a carb, what wiring looms LOL.

If you get pictures of the carb you want to use and the manifold bolt spacings i can see if its easy to make n make you one lol. may have to swap to a EFI throttle cable tho if its side mount carb.

I think your biggest issue will be registration with that engine being carby fed. There is no way you would be able to mimic the emissions results of that engine in its original location with a carby set up.

apart from that stupid issue, sounds like a mad idea!

Grind the little engine number part flat, then re stamp with 1.5L engine number, they look semi similar.

isnt there a 4g6X thats twin cam and carby? put that in.

ill have a look around and see what information i can gather.

i just looked, all the 4g6x series engines have EFI, couldnt find a single one :\

im still seriously considering a conversion.

Trondabron im thinking get a carby off another 1.8L engine and putting a adaptor plate onto it,
what do you think?

I think it depends on the carby you want to use. If it looks simple and 4 bolt style, shouldnt be too big of a problem

Think you will find the early express vans ran a carb'ed 63 in a rwd format. But being a Mitsi, there is a good chance there will be the mountings on the block for a FWD application.
Would be a lot of stuffing around though lol.

ah okai, well when i go to pick up this 4g93 engine, ill have a look around and see what carbi's they have there(IF they have any at all) and get back to you tron

yeh getting it from a jap wrecking yard
and rebuilding it.
ill have my personal mechanic with me so we'll work out what parts are screwed n such. he hasnt done a conversion to a lancer engine either so his rather interested in it too :D
