Using stored parts

Hey guys,

So as some of you may know I have had a lancer in my possession since the beginning of the year and I'm hoping to do it right this time and actually get stuff done with it.

So my conundrum at the moment is I have had parts in storage for a few years without use and now I'm not sure whether I should do a rebuild on some of it. I'm really only worried about the brakes and coilovers as I would think the rubbers would harden or possibly the pistons would seize up which I don't want, they have both been sitting for at least three years so what would I need to do to make sure they'll be alright to use when I put them on the car?

Thanks in advance :)

Well first of all check the rubber on the calipers if they seem like they have dried up then caliper rebuild kits would be the go.

Brakes, for piece of mind I would do a caliper rebuild - internal seal & boot if you really want to. Kit should be no more than $30. I'll even help you out man, dead easy job, all you'll need for tools is a pick, compressed air and some lube.

Coils, you can test off the car by attempting to bleed them. Bleeding is done by standing the strut upright and pushing down - wait for it to return - rinse repeat. The movement should be smooth (no notches, no quicker or slower bits), have resistance in both directions (less if the spring is still on the coilovers) and have no noise. If you can hear or see any leaks/noises, time to get them re-done at a shop.

Also before you install the coilovers, make sure the pillow ball mounts are greased up. They're usually the first thing to go on a few brands of coils.
