Brake Upgrade Information

So hopefully happy motoring for you! Yez racing sorted me out with pads quick smart if you have trouble getting them.

Another Q, I grabbed some satria rear calipers today from the wreckers but one of the slider pins was missing. Anyone have any idea what the p/n is for one of those, or if I can just use one off another (non-proton, they only had the one car there) brake caliper?

Just realised I'm also missing all 4 caliper bolts and the two clips that hold the handbrake on to the caliper on one side as well if anyone knows where I can get these from, either wreckers or new? Searching for proton stuff online gives pretty much no results, would the GSR brakes be the same slide pin + clips?

For fronts yes, rears I don't know. Easier to take the whole trailing arm instead of bits n pieces.

Get on to the AusProton Facebook group, those guys are always selling stuff.

Yeah you're right but unfortunately for me there was only one proton with rear discs at the wreckers and someone had already unbolted the calipers to take the rotors (lol) and they'd been hanging by the handbrake cables for who knows how long. I'm gonna go back today and have another look. I'm thinking the clips and bolts I'm missing will be fairly generic and interchangeable anyway, from what I've read the rear proton caliper is the same as the GSR one.

Currently upgrading CE Lancer 2001 with Magna TS front rotors and callipers.

After doing some searching cannot find the answer to the issue I have.

Have had the TS discs drilled to 4*100.
The callipers bolt on to existing holes, but then cannot fit the larger 276 dia Magna Discs in place. Either a bracket required to move the callipers further out or?

What else needs to be done, to fit the TS front disc brakes to the CE lancer?

Thanks
John

Considering the fto is the same as the ts then maybe this:

  • Mitsubishi FTO entire front suspension is bolt in (unsure if LCA is needed) (easiest to just grab everything from the front, it will all bolt in, keep in mind that the swaybar attaches to the strut and spring combo (which you will also need))
*note that this will turn your stud pattern into 5x114.3, and cannot be converted unless returning to OEM parts*
*Also note that this will extend out the wheel due to the increased LCA length.*

That should be it, the TR/TS Magna caliper can only fit a max disc size of 276mm (the 276mm disc can be Mini Cooper discs, or 4x100/+276mm FTo discs, or a couple of other variants that were 4x100 and 276mm)

Ive had that set up and had no problems
Thanks for the feedback, my problem is attaching TS callipers to CE front end.
The TS callipers bolt to existing holes of CE front, however when the 276 mm disc is on cannot fit callipers on, as callipers need to be further out. Or am I missing something
Anyone have a photo of their successful TS front brakes into CE Lancer installation?
Regards

This thread has a pic of a 5 stud conversion however I believe he went from a cooper s 276 with ts calipers to the 5 stud. so the pics could help for reference before he changes. I could be wrong though but it states he went from an already 276 setup.

As above, I don't think you can use the TS discs with the TS calipers. Mini cooper discs are what is required if you want to keep the 4x100 stud pattern, but still use TS calipers. I'm pretty sure from my reading the entire thread 3 times that is correct. Or not :)
That is to say that the TS calipers are fine but the TS rotors don't have the right offset for them to work with the CE caliper mounting points.

You can use magna rotors no worries. You're not fitting the caliper before the rotor though are you? Cus that'd probably be your issue.
Pictures also help

Unless the offset is wrong? On thinking about it further I had evo 3 rotors. so maybe the TS hub to calliper is adjfferent offset?
Does it look like they line would line up with any other disc?

Thanks for the many and quick responses.
Will check again late tomorrow, and let you know if still an issue.

Cheers
John

Yes compare the specs between magna TS and Evo 3. The discs that most people use are the FTO for 5 stud or Evo 276mm discs redrilled. Mini cooper is almost identical as well so a good option to not require redrilling.

This is the specs your discs should be:
Specifications
Diameter: 276
Height: 45
Thickness: 24
Min Thickness: 22.4
Centre Hole Dia: 69

Just a question, did you buy the Calipers and rotors from the same car or purchased separately? The TS magna also came with a 256mm setup on the 4 cylinder model, possibility you've got the wrong TS magna calipers and they're only for 256mm discs.

Bingo, yes that would be it, didn't check that the callipers would be from a 4 cyl. Bought from different sources
Bother, looks like we now have 2 options.

1: Get the correct TS 6cyl callipers or
2: get the TS 4cyl discs (drilled 4*100), or maybe the Proton discs sized at 256

Thanks again

Calipers are cheaper than rotors and you already have the redrilled Magna rotors. Go get some FTO/TS Magna calipers and do the better upgrade.
