Hey all

finally decided to start a thread for my “new” lancer
Bought the car in June after the end of my green car.
managed to salvage almost all the bits from the green car.

I’ll end up adding more pictures in due time once I can get onto the computer

Pretty much going to be done the same as my green coupe, just with a few new mods and done less jank/dodgy.

I am also going to call the car the fake mr or gli-t
Already done a 1.8l swap as the 1.5 is terrible lol

I personally like the white on white on white look
Waiting on the other rims and I’ll be set for next track day :)

Screamer pipe sounds mad
Maybe running a 50cel cat,
No mufflers or resonators isnt the best idea. It is quite loud
But pops and bangs like mad
Will get a muffler put back on soon2DA5750A-6851-415A-9012-CC89870A0A7E.jpeg
Happy to be back in spool city

Finally got my last rotas and the Yokohama’s fitted. Absolutely loving the turnout of this car.
got the exhaust finished. All 2.5” from turbo back. Granted it’s full straight pipe besides a 50cel cat. So it pops like crazy. And screamer pipe also makes for some fun when boosting.

this is the front/dump pipe looks like underneath not. Sits very low to the ground. (64mm ish.) so it will hit the ground if I don’t go over bumps on an angle.

went up to the local mountain and thought this was a good time for a few pics. Turned out really well in my opinion.
cant complain at all. :)

looks good, very clean, have you thought about getting clear side indicators? i picked up some for 11 bucks from a wreckers, gives the car a cleaner look on the side, the indicators aren't just on CE lancers/mirages.... a lot of Mitsubishi cars from that era fit.

the rims look nice too.

did you paint the centre caps white? that's a nice touch, i didn't like having the logo there but never got around to figuring out what to do about it

reckon you'll black out the door frames?

The white front centre caps are from the new rotas. And the one with the logos are from the old set

i will be painting the door frames once the weather gets better, and I get a set of powered mirrors

If you need a set and are wanting to paint them I know that my guy has some :tearsofjoy:

Update
Went to a track day at winton raceway on Saturday. Had a blast, even though it was raining for the first part. Had a few spin out on the track but no damage done to the car. I am happy with the car now. Didn’t burn any oil or coolant which tells me I have done something right
I’ll include a few launches I did and a few pictures on the day
We got to go full on when doing launched, it made it much more fun

Launch #1
Launch #2
Launch #3

12/05/2021 Update

Wow have not done an update in awhile.. Hear goes

So recently finished my 7th track day with this turbo setup and i can say without a doubt it is a *fudge*ing fun experience going from an N/A 1.5l to a N/A 1.8l now a turbo 1.8l
IMG_5475.jpg
First ever track day with a turbo lancer i got around 1:52ish, now spending the time learning the car and the track and fixing some issues over the past 2 years, and finally buying a new set of coil overs and dialing them all in i have achieved a lap time of 1:43.72, hoping to get under 1.40 but probably not possible on the stock block
Went on a 3 day trip before racing and racked up over 1,2k kms until on my way home i hit the oil filter on the ground at 110km p/h and ended up getting the car towed to a depot and lost my keys which was a fun 2-3 days after lmao
Turns out that the cheap tow strap is able to move the car onto a tow truck at least :')
IMG_5467.jpg
Recently put a new front bumper and on spent 3 hours with a dremel to have it sit flush without looking jank (not this one in the photo, this is the jank one still)
Put all the original Fuel evap system back in and stock evo 6 intake to be quiet as possible, got 2 months left till my full license.

Of course i had to take a scenic shot while i was at Eildon lookout cant help myself :)

The first time I went to Winton I did a 1.47 I think with a 6A12 engine.
But the car was handling quite poorly.
1.43 isn't too bad, but yes I think going under 1.40 is the benchmark for something reasonably capable at the track.

How's the handling of the car? It's a fairly tight track and power will only get you so far.

Handling is not to bad, learning what gear around each corner to minimise shifting is a key thing I am working on
Front wheels grip like crazy, back wheels tend to come up 2-3inch inches of the ground but doesn’t overly affect the car. The new coilovers work FANTASTIC and make a huge difference once setup properly, going to set up some camber and test it again soon, and replacing all the bushes with better ones and hopefully that will make a difference.
Edit: power is one thing, but learning braking areas helps so much as well,

Update, 26/05
F I N A L L Y got the wastegate plumbed into the exhaust. Got sick of listening to the screamer pipe.

Grabbed a spare AC side fan and modified it to fit where the main radiator fan is, also have it on a toggle switch to leave on even if the car is switched on.

Totally didn’t kill my battery while testing this and playing music off the car speakers.

More performance mods on the way for the car as well ;)

July 7th 2021 Update

Raced the car at Winton raceway again for the 8th time,
had problems with my inter cooler pipes coming off,
after getting everything fixed i finally got some track time in
Didn't beat my time, but i did manage to hit 192km/h on the long straight, which was scary lol
Ended up running out of fuel on the small straight after corner 2, as i went through 20ish Liters of ethanol in 7 laps, brakes were smoking once i pulled up on the side.
Got towed back in to have a few blokes come up to me asking what had broken, they had a civic running an Evo 8 turbo which blew up on the track
fantastic day, got a quick cabin shot of the inside just as the inter cooler pipe popped, (Can be heard right at the end of the second linked video) and running the car back into the pits in limp mode.
Car was quite jerky once i went to ethanol, but ran rich and never leaned out once, had no issues once i got onto the track.
The wheel alignment made a HUGE difference, and even using $80 cheap tyres it still went VERY well.

Sounds like a popcorn machine imo, (Limp mode on E85)

Inside view overtaking @miragee then inter cooler pipe decided it didn't want to be connected anymore

@miragee spinning out on the second lap of the day because someone was to eager and didn't warm up the tyres, also spraying mud all over the front of the car

It still was a fantastic day despite a few hick ups and dramas along the way
new mods and changed coming of the car before the next track day.

Even though I know to get heat into the tyres before ant hard cornering, it appears I still haven't learnt my lesson.
Still it was a great day. Was great going down the straight @ 190 kph in your car. The best part of the day was when you ran out of fuel and had to be towed back :tongueout:

August 27th 2021 Update

This is the intake pipe I picked up for cheap, from an Evo 6 TME, Solution for all the mud being thrown into the engine bay, you can see all the dirt near the intake box, this is with splash guards on, but this works a wonder and looks good IMO :nomouth:

While I had to take the fuel tank out as the fuel pump shat itself, I took apart the rear brakes and repainted them in a high temp, anodized purple which I think looks great (Fronts brakes are the same colour) :p

I sprayed a layer of under-body coating while the tank was out of the car.
Here is the car on a tow truck... yet again, fuel pump died on me.
IMG-6005.jpg
Got another project I am starting on the car in the next few weeks once all my parts have arrived. Spent about a month researching and finding all the parts I need. will update once the project is finished

Hey man, not to sound intrusive but is your car the one that gets around Ballarat every now and then. I think I remember seeing it at my work one time (Bridgestone in Mair street)?

Yes that is the car. Wouldn’t have been at Mair street though, I don’t go to bridgestone.
You parked next to me at Maccas one time lol

October 12th 2021 Update

Been awhile.
Finally did the full auto FTO climate control swap, with working outside temperature sensor and photo sensor on the inside. Love it, found all the parts insanely cheap and of course, couldn’t help myself. Wiring was fun, not a challenge at all,

34441057-C2CF-4274-A97C-CCCB7611C5AD.jpeg

Even more plans over the next few months, also finally got the new Anti Lift Bushes on the front, it makes the car better around corners
Federal semi slicks fitter, track day on Saturday, few goals to hit next race

Can’t wait
