Last year I purchased a TWM (well respected Canadian tuner company) short shifter, gear knob and aluminium bushes for my CJ Lancer. It was quite pricey at the time due to a bad exchange rate, so now is amongst the best of times for people that are keen to be buying it!

The installation took a little while but was pretty easy and straight forward.

The resultof this mod is a much more direct feel to the shifts and I can change through the gears alot quicker than before, with minimal effort! THis is a mod I highly recommend to those with manual cars that are chasing performance!

Here is the centre console taken out to get to the assembly and no seat due to me investigating my audio install (oh and an assortment of tools and some grease all over the floor )

Ryan,

Was it hard to install the short shifter yourself?

What sort of money did you spend?

I am wanting to modify my CJ but being the noob I am I dont have any skillz.
Cheers

Nah it was easy as, they provide all the instructions you need for it. You will however need a small tub of grease which is about $10 from Supercheap and a Dremel tool helps with the removal of the clip washers greatly (~$40 for a generic one from Supercheap). Apart from that you just need a socket set with a 10mm socket and some screw drivers.

Honestly I can't remember exact costs, but I believe I paid about $350 for a gear knob and shiftwer but the dollar was like 60ish cents at the time. Now you should be able to get the shifter for under $200 I think.

that's sounds all good then yeah I am waiting on my lovely tax cheque to arrive so I can repair the damage on the car and get the short shifter.

I may call on your assistance when i get the shifter i have some mates who have done it before.

thanks
