Turbo Mirage 1.9LT

OUCH! Hope it’s not too expensive on the freight…

Surely if the clutch is damaged it’d be covered by whoever caused that seal problem?
They are covering freight. Box is getting sent back to a certain shop in NSW.
I was hoping to take the Mirage up to SEQ, but knowing this shop, I won't get it anytime soon

Where so back baby.

After a 10 hour drive to Sydney, waiting around for 10 hours and driving 10 hours home. The gearbox is back in the car and working again.
You bet when I got home the gearbox was put back on the car and EVEYTHING back together

I now have a working heater which is amazing

After some troubleshooting the issue of when I started boosting or under any load at high rpm the car would buck, jerk and run super lean, checked plugs, boost leak test and then fuel filter. I think I can determine it was a blocked fuel filter. Impossible to blow through. Toor it apart the filter material was very crusty and blocked with all this black crap "yay Ethanol"

Did a boost leak test, at 18 psi, found a few leaks, but one that baffled me, was the actual intercooler THAT IS NEW had 2 pinhole leaks on it. But nothing a few layers of paint fixed.

Man I miss driving the a Mirage after 6 weeks. I have done a bunch of interior changes including moving all my switches, redoing some lighting. I now use an FTO voltage for my fuel pump voltage, coz it looks kinda cool ngl.

Intercooler is now black, I just wanted to test the car, I changed the piping and intercooler while it was out of the car. Sold the Evo 9 intercooler, would not allow me to run a CE3 lip, which REALLY adds to the overall look to the car .

I still aim to go to SEQ to meet the lads on the other side, but I don't think I'll drive, I'm over long drives for now.

That's it for me for now. Updates soon to come. Many more things in the pipe line to get done

Welp
We are back on Jack stands

I'm having what I think is a fueling issue and I am genuinely so baffled with what is going on.
If I'm driving the car normal everything is fine. If I start putting some load into the car it will feel like it's hitting a wall and it will completely lean out. As in 0 fuel.
-- --On the wideband
If I do a pull in any gear it will hit about 5 psi, or any load after 4k rpm it will feel like it's hitting a wall, cut all power and read completely lean.
But, if I take off on launch control, it will make 10psi fine and fuelling is good.
So far I have done;
Fuel filter
New plugs at 1.1
Old plugs at 0.6
Checked fuel pump filter (clean)
Nothing in the lines
Cleaned MAF. Boost leak test at 18psi. No leaks now
Changed leads, coils, leads and coils.
All my grounds are good.
Fuel pump gets 14v
Fuel tank is spotless
E85 reads at E85 with a tester

The car did sit for 6 weeks with E85, but I can't see why that would be the main issue

Maybe fuel pressure regulator? I haven't been able to get a replacement?
Maybe hardwired 14v is causing me issues. Dont have a replacement fuel pump hanger.
I'm wondering if anyone might be able to suggest or know of the idea. I can try and providing more about the issues if needed.

Check the injector tips are clean, and the fuel rail too if it hasnt already. You might need the injectors cleaned (Or can DIY it) if the fuel filter has passed on junk to the injectors.

Also check its not petrol/E85 mapping

Good idea I'll give that a go tonight.
Found a DIY injector cleaner I can test.
Definitely E85 map pin has ground when on.
Waiting on an new fuel pump sock.
I was so bummed out when I got the car back together for it to not boost correctly.

Injectors tester, came back within 2ccs of each other, again. Fuel pump works fine. Filter on it was a tad dirty, replaced with a new one

Found a loosish ground where the FP/relay ground to, fixed it up with something nice. FPR replaced. All grounds checked. Swapped to 98 to test and had the same issue.
Turns out. It is a dead/bad ecu.
Good news I found the issue
Bad news, I found the issue.
Atleast the gearbox doesn't leak?

unlucky about the ecu mate they are pretty fragile when it comes to surge, however i did notice you checked the plugs ,coils and leads, leads and coils... thats not enough times!!
I got caught out with mine and turned out 3 sets of coils were spoiled! 4x OEM and near new NGKs. installed good quality new set, boom perfect!
very strange as symptoms matched yours exactly, oh well at least we know everything else is good now though!

Mate I have had issues with coil before. I've bought new ones that just *poo* themselves or do not work, or cause the dreaded code 44. I ended up getting a OEM set and they worked. I've always used NGK, never had a problem with them. And they are cheap for 4.
The ecu not working/being killed is a fault of mine, I'm %99 sure I sent 12v down a ground wire. But hey, *poo* happens, im annoyed at myself, but also happy I found the issue.

Wheels are by Circuit Performance, from the states, I heard they are okay, but tbh not to bothered, they clear the 294mm, and I love the look, plus 15" which is a bonus. Ordered 2 more, so hopefully they arrive soon.
Tyres are Mickey Thompson ET streets Drag Radials, 225/50/15, aiming to shave more time off the 1/4m soon, got a really good deal for 2.

Got the drag setup going on.
Next step is eventually get a proper exhaust done. Everytime I drive it, I'm either
A, huffing in the fumes from the exhaust, and it's not exactly good.
B, it's very loud, even with the side exit closed.

Went to Queensland over the weekend and got to meet some of the AL guys, was a fun day, got some inspiration, and had some fun riding in other people's cars, always makes me jealous.

Here is a small update.

Second pair of wheels arrived from US last week's.

Finally have 15s all around on the car.

Front tyres are Mickey Thompson ET streets 225/50/15s

Rear tyres are, Nankang CS-2 205/50/15 chosen mainly due to the reviews of them, plus a few recommendations from people I know and the lads in QLD. Plus I got a good deal on them.

Need to drop the rear a bit and lose that rally look.
Took the car for a drive for the first time in awhile, hooks nicely with this setup, cornering seems okay, but MTs aren't really designed for stress on cornering, sidewalls are not super stiff.

Update.

Finally took the car to Winton to test the car and give the LSD a workout.
My GOD the LSD makes a HUGE difference in cornering, you REALLY can throw it in more, it's amazing. No input shaft seal leaks so that's HUGE.
Got some really good shots of the car.

Was keeping pace with an LS swapped WRX and a mustang, had a chat with the owner of the LS WRX cool guy, he thought he could blitz past the Mirage until I took off doing 90kmh around the last turn at Winton. He did catch up right at the end of the straight.

I plan on taking the car to an exhaust shop tomorrow. After doing a day of racing and driving 3 hours home. With the radio blasting to cut out the loud exhaust, smelling of unburnt fuel and a migraine, it's time for a full exhaust.

Something looks different.
I can't quite put my finger on it.... Hmm is it the silver rocker cover?

I was quoted $1,800 for an exhaust for the Mirage. I don't know if metal or labour has gone up? Maybe both. Maybe I'll never have a full exhaust done at this stage lol.

15's look so damn good. the proportions look great.

remind me which LSD you went again?

is that COP conversion on the 93?

if you want a J pipe, let me know your highway cruising RPM too

Agreed the 15s look the nicest, meaty tyres, cheaper tyres, and hey, it clears the 294mm*(kinda) so I can't complain.

LSD is a KAAZ 1.5, locked at %80, I Love it huge upgrade, which I did the swap years ago

Yes 4 COP using Honda Civic K20/24 coils. COP mount were made by me, yes not the cleanest welds, but it holds, still makes boost, doesn't leek, and they feel Strong. (I do have a wiring diagram I made if your interested I can send it)

J pipe, interesting, Highway cruising at 110km is like 3k rpm?
