Stepper Motor Swapout 4G15

The stepper motor in my lancer sounds like its on its last legs, idle cant keep a constant rev.
Anyone know how hard it is to swap one of those suckers out / whats involved? Or how to even test if its stepper motor?

Got a quote from bursons, 120...could probably get it cheaper through mates though.

Mine was $250 for a 2nd hand one, so sounds like you have a good deal going for you. Don't know the work involved, but if your revs are dropping when idling and your car keeps shutting off, good chance it's that little bastard and it needs replacing.

It doesnt shut off, its not that bad....yet...but it does idle between 500 and 2k....which is super strange.

Mind you this only started since monday, when I had my mechanic put a new dizzy in (old one was rooted, no spark at all)

I didn't have any pre-existing issues with mine. Everything was fine. Then one day it just died, straight up died. No warning at all :\

have you had the battery disconnected for a while?
as that will also do it for a while, while the computer sets it self back up.
when i disconnect the battery on my cc wagon and my cg lancer they sometime have this issue.
what i do is let them run for about 30 min or more, idel in the drives way.
that seem to stop them having the issue of the trying to stall at a set of light on you.

Id assume the battery was disconnected for at least 5 hours while my mechanic was fixing the dizzie problem on monday.....it has idle issues when it gets warm. On a cold start it seems fine.

Is there any way to test it?

multimeter, and check a wiring diagram or similar

IIRC, car off but with throttle fully opened, it should read 5 volts, with throttle fully closed(otherwise known as idle lol) i think its 1 volt?

Thats for the TPS I believe.

hes after the stepper motor. it should be about 3 philips head screws holding the motor into the lower portion of the TB. You can always go to the wreckers and swap them.

Service manual.
