So I fitted Brembo brakes to a lancer…

IMG_8390.jpegHello everyone! Thought i’d showcase something really interesting i discovered a while ago, not sure if this is known info but i’m gonna put it out there.

I noticed someone from california managed to fit 4 piston brembos from a cadillac CTSV on his 2004 Ralliart. Then i found out that the front 4 piston brembos from a VE commodore are the EXACT same calipers.

Turns out they have the same 130mm bolt spacing like our regular calipers. Is it overkill for brakes? Yes. Is it cool asf? Also yes

Obviously the mounting bolts are too long but shouldn’t be hard to find shorter ones, now as for brake discs.. the guy from California used 03-05 ford cobra mustang discs which are 330mm dia, 5x114.3, and centre bore of 71mm, he used a spacer shim between the rotor and hub but not sure what the thickness is yet.

Nice find! Quick lookup tells me the discs you’re talking about are DBA069. Comparing them too the options for a VE, those discs are between 2-4mm thinner than the VE ones.

I guess I would say don’t let the pads run below 3-4mm for safety reasons - its the same case for the mini cooper disc conversion on CE’s.

Centre bore is gonna be an issue - probably need a machine shop and some cash to solve that.

Comparing the dba069 to the discs on my 324mm stetup, the offset is close, and the calliper sits in a similar spot too.

Now you just need to try it out I guess!

Brake clearance on your 17’s might be snug too btw.

Oh and get super soft pads - full street spec ones with good bite. Lancer is much lighter than a VE commo so you won’t be able to get anywhere near as much heat into them as you’d think.

Yeah only gonna be running soft pads for this one, don’t see a reason to get any kind of racing pad.

Quick update though i did find out that i will apparently need a 5mm spacer shim to sit between the rotor and wheel hub to perfectly center the rotor to the caliper.

I hit up my guy in california and he sent me a link to this caliper conversion kit for 1G/2G eclipses but these also work for CH lancers. $222 usd to pretty insane for a few bolts and spacers though so i’m gonna try to find a better option.

So i’ve worked out what bolt length i’ll need, the old mounting bolts from the commodore are 45mm long and poke out 10mm past the mounting bracket, obviously this is a no-go.

So now i need to find the same gauge bolt but 35mm longIMG_8401.jpegIMG_8392.jpeg

Oooh hub centric spacer is a good way to make that centre bore shim. Also 5mm puts it very near the GTO callipers. Probably fine to get a locally made one, and just clearance the shim to not sit proud of the brake disc when installed.

It would foul your wheels otherwise :)

EDIT: also looks like they will fit under the evo wheels you have

How much did those caddy brakes set you back? VE Brembos are about the same price as evo brakes in Syd.

Nah these brembos are from a VE commodore, bought them for $500 on facebook marketplace lmao.

I discovered they were the same as caddy ctsv brembos through chatting with another lancer guy from california

Just thought I would say great post man, bolt spacing is the hardest so finding out that info about Cadillac and VE is gold, thanks for posting it up.
The Enkies look great, was going to that to mine but I’m old school and like my deep dish wheels too much

Thanks i appreciate it, i’m slowly making my lancer the super fun sport car it was destined to be

Been wanting to give back to the forum after getting so much info for my own build over the years.
