Roof rust

I need a permanent solution to the common roof rust, something to fix it permanently not temporarily. Hopefully someone had done so or knows how?

I have a spare roof (drilled the spot welds out of a spare car and took it off) but i would prefer to fix the roof in the car as that would mean i don't have to get the windows professionally removed.

The car also has a sun roof so one of the roof turrets is partially removed.

I haven't owned a CC for a while but from memory the rust is caused by moisture getting trapped in the welds between the roof skin and the turrets. My CC was fixed before I bought it but the way to go was a new roof skin and new welds.

Most of the time the rust was only noticeable after it had rusted through to the outside of the roof meaning the roof skin wasn't repairable

The rust is from the crap glue Mitsu used at the time. Replacing the rails is the easiest remedy. They can be sourced through Mitsu and also Proton. Obviously you'd know if your rails needed replacing but taking the headliner out is how you give it a squiz.

Can't say if its possible! but would killing the rust then a bit of paint just for protection and whacking , say carbon fiber vinyl wrap over the lot be possible.

The rust develops in the rails. You can cut it back and spray it as much as you want but it will continuously rust until the rails are replaced.

I have a full brand new set of OEM Mitsubishi bows and rails if you are interested
