Retrim Questions

Hi guys,

I did plan on starting my re-trim this weekend, but due to the crappy weather decided to postpone til next. I figured today could just go into some planning.
The plan is to do a full re-trim in a cream leather/ vinyl, possibly with suede inserts.
I'd like to have downlights in the roof, similar to what some of you have here. So i just had a couple of questions before i go ahead and begin.

Does anyone know how much material i'm giong to need to a full retrim (except for the seats, postponing those as i'm looking to buy different front seats, and customising the rears myself)
Also, once the parts have been re-trimmed, they are going to be slighty thicker, and therefore harder to put back in. Is it recommended to sand them back a fair bit, or shave some off? Or do they fit with a bit of force?

Also, where can i get some of the downlights you guys used? I understand some of those can put out a lot of heat, and i was lead to believe that a few different types that are installed in houses carry a fire warning. So i'm keen to get the correct type so i don't do any damage. Also, on the lights, do they just require a 12v source? Or does it get a little more complicated?

Any help is appreciated guys, also any tips when it comes to the re-trim would be greatly appreciated.

you might need too ask either aaron (droid2) or john (MOR31)

they have their complete interior trimmed.

and im pretty sure aaron got his downlights from autobarn, and he just wired them too a switch going too the normal 12v current

Yeah they're the main guys im directing this thread to.
I'll check autobarn for the lights, thanks for the reply Dr1ft

Ok. To answer a few of your questions. Material needed.
I got 15 metres of vinyl and 10 metres of suede, ended up getting another 10 metres of vinyl, cause i wasted alot of it.
The lights i used are 12v halogen bulbs, yes they heat up quick, but I have never had an issue and paid 16 bucks each at a lighting shop.
As to sanding the plastic items you want to trim, Yes you need to be rough with it, so there is something for the glue to stick onto and stay on smooth and not let go.

Hope this helps. Anymore questions, ask away.

oks here goes,

downlights, autobarn & they were $30 yeah a big difference to sams downlights but mine & johns are flat backed, brighter, whiter & have no heat & they use hardly any power

vinyl, my roof, pillars, false floor & seats all up i went through about 10+ metres of vinyl & as for the parts getting thicker i never realy had any problem as yet but just give them a rough sand back

& good luck & have fun :D

hmm should be similar too a ce, so best of luck :)

im gonna paint mine properly like mdclear

and where the fabric is it will be black suede *drool*

Personally I would use LED based downlights rather than normal household halogens as they draw less power and therefore don't dissipate a *poo*load of heat...

Yeah or you can buy a fitting like Sam's and get a 12V MR16 LED globe....

but like sam said they do have a lil heat where as the LED lights have no heat and more light, but yes both work very well

did anyone have any problems with downlights being to deep and thus not fitting in the roof cavity?
