everytime i turn my lights on, the fuse for the left hand side tail light blows, blinkers, reverse lights, work. brake light and tail light. only on that one side
my brother suggests that it could be the switch for the lights(on the dash).
can anyone give me any other suggestions?

im trying to avoid a auto elect,
im replacing the switch on friday to see if that fixes it. if it doesnt then ill send it to a auto elect,
i dnt wanna waste money on a auto elect jus to fix a switch

ive checked fuses, lights, everything i can think of.. the only thing i havent checked is the switch. and its only blowing as soon as i turn on parkers, and its just that one light, it DID have custom wiring cuz the model didnt come standard with a wing/spoiler and mine had the standard lancer spoiler with the breaklight, but i ripped that out cuz it was all broken up with no lenses or anything. the brake lights work fine, its just the tail light that is causing a issue, which is why im replacing the switch to see if that fixes it, as far as i know, the entire dash is factory default which can cause problems since it IS a 17 yr old car and with all the original parts.. they do die eventually, its done well over 300,000ks on the clock and doesnt blow smoke, did have a few leaks in the engine and a screwed waterpump but the engine issues have all been fixed and replaced, im not a electrician nor do i know too much about electrical wiring harnesses on cars, my brother does all that stuff for me, he reackons replace the switch so im gonna do that n see how i go.

yeah could just be a faulty switch. you could also have the polarities reversed, just triple check everything man

im getting a new switch for it tomorrow from bursons, ill see if that fixes it. if not then ill go thru the wiring and such all over again to see if there is anything ive missed out

no, the issue has been there since i got the car, ive replaced the switch and it still is blowing a fuse so i am going to take it to a auto electrician up the road from me.
i have recently put a cd player into it but the problem was there before i did that

the short has been fixed, i stand corrected. Chaser made me think of unplugging the cd player to see if that was causing it and it was infact the earth wire for the CD player, that earth wire has now been fixed up and the earth wire for the CD player is now on its own seperate wire

WRONG, the green/white wire is the lighting system, you can also tell this by looking at the lights for the ash tray and cigerette lighter, 1 wire is black (- earth) the other is green/white (+ lights)
and theres a green/yellow wire off the stereo plug which is also for the + lighting system

Theres is no black wire on the stereo plug, the factory stereo is earthed to the casings mounting point
Only black wire near there are the ones for the dash light circuitry, ie ash tray, ciggerette lighter, ac/heater control... which will have a green/white wire with it
