Quiet aftermarket catback (or just muffer) suggestions?

Hi guys, I have an Auto 2001 Lancer CEII Sedan GLXi with 4G93. I am currently running the stock exhaust, and previously had a cheap ebay cannon that was very droney and obnoxious. I bought a replacement stock muffler but didn't realise it wasn't stainless steel and hence didn't apply a protective coating, now it is severely rusted and needs to be replaced.

I am looking for maybe a slightly sporty sound but it's very important the car stays quiet, with specific emphasis on droning at highway speeds (typically 110kmh). Also I cannot have the loud startup "boom" which was present with the cannon because I often drive late at night. And of course with the automatic, any drone is far more annoying as it jumps between gears and uses low revs.

My question is should I bother getting a 2inch catback with large resonator and multi-baffled muffler (and if so, any specific brands or just go fully custom) or just take the boring option and grab another stock muffler and blast it with rust prevention spray?

Also a small side note, my black rooftop drip rail mouldings are flaking off to reveal the chrome underneath. I've heard the cheapest way is to simply scrape it all off and recoat it with plastidip. However I've also heard plastidip is a poor choice for this surface. Any thoughts/advice before I grab a rattle can?

Thanks so much in advance :)
